Why not just forgo the coilovers and get a decent paint job? I've said it a million times, but I'd rather drive a clean stock car than a half-assed modded one.

painting a car with a roller? no freaking way man, it will look better rusty than painted with a roller.

if you want to be cheap do it smart... go buy a spray gun, use it and return it ;)

omg n00bs FTW!!1111

haha, just kidding. seriously though, this guy's brave. i've been looking into fiberglass projects for my car (mainly to fix my bumper) and only recently i've decided to mod my OEM bumper since it's just sitting there.

but as far as painting goes, i wouldn't even consider a roller!? good choice on taking members' advice to get a spray gun.

post progress pics, and GOOD LUCK!

i've painted a whole car myself...i did the s14 in my signature. I sanded clear coat off of the whole car then i just sprayed it up with some primer first. once that was done i used 6 spray cans of green apple flat/satin paint. came out really nice. anything that had runs or maybe needed to be touched up...i waited few days and sanded the spot then sprayed it again.

anyways i know how you feel about painting the entire car yourself. I have had professional companies paint my car before and definately love the results but since i park my car in the streets...i ended up with scratches and nicks on my doors...bumpers etc

that was the reason i never got my 240 painted at a shop..no garage to keep it in and didnt have the money to rent one. anytime i got a scratch or dent, i would just fix it and paint it over again. the car always looks mint : )

so if thats your reason then i say go for it! but if you have a garage then you should just get a professional paint job

oh and btw...make sure you take the time to prep the car...tape off all windows and parts that must not get painted. this will save you a lot of time later, trust me!!!

I'm a huge do-it-yourselfer so I applaud your intentions, but this is just nuts. If you absolutely have to take the cheap way out, at least do some research first. There are books on the subject. You don't even have to buy them, just go to Barnes and Noble and read for a few hours. You buy a different kind of paint for a home job when you don't have an oven than you do if you have a professional booth. You never use a roller with spray type paint and you should at least have enough sense if trying something this critical, to go to the junk yard and get a fender to experiment with or something. Plus removing the headlights and turn signals and stuff, doesn't cost you any money. You sanded that whole car down and how many times did the sandpaper hit the tail lights and other scratchable surfaces?

Like everything. RESEARCH, before you start. Even on a budget you can do a better job than this.

Good luck. . . you'll need it.

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/03/need ... ill-do-it/

I read the whole article and I still don't believe it--I would have to actually see the guy paint this for me to believe a car can be painted well with a roller. (Don't trust the internet!)

To the OP--
I did notice that you sanded alot of spots on your car. Not even the best, most experienced painter could blend those spots out--your car needs to be completely sanded and repainted for the paint to look right no matter what sprayer (or roller) you use. A spot here and there may be blended but not the amount you have. And if you haven't ever used a sprayer (or a roller) on a car, I would seriously suggest you practice on another piece of metal surface first. Like others have suggested, if you're on a hella-tight budget Earl Scheib or Maaco would be the best only after you haven't seriously tried to save money.

wow thanx for all the tips guys.... ok so i bought some lowering springs and struts today...got some rims.... waiting for the paint to come in on friday..... i know that getting it done professionally will look much better but i think i would love the car more if i know that i did it myself...

for example i did my own soundsystem...its not the best but i like it more than if i got it done somewhere else... i guess its kinda like a sentimental value type of thing.

plus i think its fun : )

do u guys think a rear sway bar makes a noticeable difference??

yes a RSB does makes a dramatic difference.
A sound system is nothing like painting a whole entire car with a roller or even doing a paint job or fixing some imperfections, Im sorry but wow you are insane if you can flippin spend money on CO's then spend the money on your paint instead, but hell who am i to tell you what to do with your money
Good F***ing Luck
