Flowmaster 60 on v6?

Flowmaster 60 on v6?

Postby treefrog99 » Mon Mar 08, 2010 1:27 pm

Hey everyone,

First off, yes, I did a search first! Didnt find what I was looking for

I am thinking of upgrading to a flowmaster 60 series muffler on my solara, and doing custom 2.5" piping from the cat to the muffler... Has anyone run this setup?

I have looked at every other exhaust option and sound, and so far i like this best... I had a '92 prelude with one of these mufflers on it, and loved it.. I am big fan of flowmaster..

Scroll down the page for 60 series.. http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/index.php?cat=1

Whats your thoughts? Thanks!

I don't think many people run Flowmaster exhausts on imports. If you have had good experiences with them in the past, than I would say go for it.

My two pennies.......... Ive gone through this. For the cost of a custom cat back, you can get a used Evo ll which is 2.5" or get an OBX. I think OBX makes a N/A 2.5" and 3" catback. The cheapest quote i got from a muffler shop was $280 and that did NOT include the muffler. It was two resonators, flanges and the piping. If you dont care about the money, i say do what your going to be happy with. You can also look for a TRD muffler. They do come up for sale sometimes. ............I may have one for sale soon.

Obx is only 3 inch and greddy is 2.36 inch not 2.5. Your only choice for a premade 2.5 inch is the Megan fart cannon ricer special or the megan dual tip oe exhaust.

I am not sure why everyone thinks OBX comes in 2.5 and greddy is 2.5. Also the greddy is discontinued. You would think with only 4 exhaust options it would be easy to keep track.

If I had to list my top choices I would do this

For NA

1. 2.5 custom one or 2 resonators from silverline all stainless construction with TRD muffler.

2. Same with borla pro xs muffler

3. Same as first with dynomax ultra flow stainless muffler

4. megan OE

5. megan RS

For supercharged

1. OBX 3 inch

2. Custom 3 inch with borla muffler and dual resonators

3. Jpp

What about a Megan Racing exhaust?

There is a kit made by them that will directly fit onto your car:

^ My first choice after custom. I love it no fart cannot and it fits with the class of the solara. Just does not scream ricer like the RS does.

Lee has one on his Gen I Solara, it looks great.

Its a cat back exhaust that directly fits your car, what more could you possibly want?

Yep, 2.5 is just right for NA. The three inch stuff will rob you of your bottom end.

From what I've heard, the general consensus is that Flowmaster will not sound very good on a v6 import like our cars, and that Magnaflow is the way to go. I just got my OBX headers, OBX Y pipe, and JP cat-back (3" w/ Magnaflow muffler) and I can tell you that it is very loud, but not raspy. It is a very deep tone.

I might be posting a video of it this weekend. If I do I'll let you know
