The reason I blocked it off was it was leaking a little at the fittings. I tightened them but it still started dripping a little again. I could try to tighten them again.

On a stock 5s do you think I need both or would a hayden 403 be sufficient alone?

You really should be fine but, IPT has a cool in-line temp. sender and matching Autometer gauge. This is a good insurance policy. Heat is the number 1 killer of the automatic trans....

Ok guys I will look into it and run in series.

On the plus side right after she gets home from school the aftermarket cooler still feels nice and cool to the touch. Remember it is a stock 5sfe

OK I fixed it so it is in series with the stock cooler. One odd thing is the new cooler actually feels hotter after a short drive than it did last night. I wonder if the trans fluid gets some heat from the radiator core.

It most likely does. Its one unit (the trans line in the rad setup runs thru the bottom). On the highway ur trans temps should be lower than 100degrees from what I read, and in city...it can climb to like ~200-220.

(these temps are if u just run the cooler by itself). If u ran it with the rad....im sure ur max temps would be 180ish...maybe 200....but ur lowest temps wont be that low.

Yes, it will.
Did you run it before or after the factory radiator?
During winter you will want it to run before the radiator. Because your trans wants an appropriate operating temp. (about the same as the engine)
It is debatable though.
Because, I only drive mine in the summer it's after. And I'll probably add another, and I won't use the radiator core cooler.

Probably because the tc is fully locked up on the highway.

and because ur getting optimal cooling of the cooler (higher speeds)...and then driving in city ur constantly going from 1st to second, to third and so on.....at lower speeds.

Key rule on a boosted car, dont push it while ur driving intown.

You can see in the last pic the line that goes from the transmission and feeds the radiator with the fluid is closer to the passenger side of the vehicle and the line bringing the fluid back out of the radiator is closer to the driver side. the line coming from the radiator (line closer to driver side) needs to be replaced with a longer one that will reach the new cooler, then the line coming back from the new cooler shoots fluid back into the transmission. Hope it helps someone.
And as for the temps in winter being too cold, it does make sense that there would be an optimal temp for the fluid and being to cold would be bad, but i did use amsoil and from what i read it has a lower pour point than most other fluids. meaning it doesnt get thick at cold temperatures so much.
