Very cool when things pan out for me again and the Rochester economy stops sucking I may be doing this upgrade.

bbq bob wrote:i've got the dual piston calipers and the red stuff ebc brake pads. as to why toyota went with cheaper calipers is because they are cheaper! cost is a big deal when making cars or bikes. you should ask harley why they changed thier crank bearings from the timkin bearing to roller bearings. they are cheaper to make and setup. toyota did the same thing. ron, you can stick with the cheap crap. you don't track anymore. i like the brakes. i'm looking forward to the rear setup. i've heard alot of crap about gabe's setup on this site. well i did the track test and for the cash invested this is one of my best upgrades. A+ for gabe's big brake kit. :D

I just put on Gabe's kit today also went with the larger rear ES300 rotors. Used stock calipers on both ends. Nice..stops on a dime. I don't know why Toyota switched from duals up front. Glad to see they're working for you on the track! I was just having this *debate* for discussion purposes....people make assumptions and act based on those assumptions. It's amazing how some of them are based on fallacy. I just wanted to point out that those thinking that those have more stopping power (than stock) are incorrect. However, they *may* have the advantage of running a bit cooler in the pads (larger) with less pad wear as well. As far as the stock calipers being *crap* compared to the duals....they're both really the SAME product with a slightly different configuration. It's not like they switched to a FRAM oil filter from the Toyota brand

I had to F##Kn grind both STOCK brackets.
I just sent Gabe a PM on this. For some reason, the kit has TWO styles of bolts, when they all could be the *round* allen bolt version..I think.

So your sayin that in order to fit the stock single piston caliper you had to do some grinding??? There is a reason why he went with two styles of bolts, for clearence reasons. Gabe is a very reasonable guy, Im sure if you call and talk to him he would set your mind at ease.

Why would all allen-head bolts be necessary? The hex bolts come through from the back side of the brackets where there is a ton of clearance.

I think the nature of our kit being totally custom is why a bit of grinding is necessary to make this work. An hour of grinding is totally worth the outcome IMO.

I'd be glad to include all round head allen bolts with the kit , i just didnt think i needed to. I have been going off feedback from other customers and up until now everyone has been telling me that just 4 of those allen bolts were needed.

It doesn't matter if you have the heads on the BACK because you then have to deal with the F#KN NUTS that will be on the front and they will interfere with the caliper bracket as well. That's why they should have the same ROUND bolts for the adapter mounting which would go in front to back (no rubbing on the caliper bracket). BTW, you can't switch the Hex heads to the caliper bracket mount (in order to use the rounds on the adapter) because they're too F#KN long! :x

I don't think you can do that even if you try (calipers won't mount)...it's pretty obvious.
