Need Help with 5 SPD Trans

Need Help with 5 SPD Trans

Postby Night_Wolf » Wed Sep 09, 2009 3:00 pm

Hey guys, Ive got the 5 spd trans out of a 2000 Solara (the story is here http://solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t=46647), I had to pull the axles, and figured while I was in there I would replace the axle seals so they wouldn't go on me right away. Well I pulled the seals, went to the parts store to get the parts, they ordered me the wrong parts...so I went to Toyota and told them what I needed, they didn't get me the right parts either. So if any of you guys can let me know whats up that'd be great!

The below picture is of the drivers side of the transmission, the seal I need goes in front of that yellow/bluish/blackish plate thing, and goes around the axle.

This is a picture of the passenger side, I need the seal that goes into that hole, once again I would call it an axle seal.

And this is what the two seals look like (the drivers side one was originally circular, that was my fault)

So if anyone has any ideas, or advice I could use it, this is the last thing I need before my swap is complete.

I have a driver's-side axle to tranny fluid seal sitting here with a part #90311-50027. However, mine looks more like the passenger seal you have pictured above.

I just replaced these on my tranny. The driver side is the larger of the two. Be very sure that you put them in straight. If you do not the fluid will leak out, and you will have to pull back out the seal, and you CANNOT reuse it...and they damn sure ain't cheap. I believe the larger one is around $20.

Did they look the same? And would you happen to have the part number for them by chance?

No they both dont look the same. The drivers side is much larger and brown looking. The other side is a good deal smaller. I dont have the part numbers sorry, I threw out the packaging

go to toyota and tell them you need the axle seals that go into the tranny

Yea I've tried that a number of times, but the parts they always send me are the wrong ones. So this time I decided to order like 10 different seals that go into the transmission, assuming that maybe just one of them might work.

They go into the differential, so maybe if you describe them as axle to differential seals they will get the right ones

I tried that and I didn't have any success. What did you describe them as when you got them?

What axles are you using with the E153? Could their fitment be the problem with the seals? I know their has been quite a few problems in the past with the axle fitment in the celica's when mating them with the camry trans.

I'm using the MR2 inner axles mated with GT-Four outer axles. The problem isn't with getting the axles to fit, its the fact that the seals to hold the gear oil in the car were bad and leaking so I have to replace them.
