painting my own car and doing my own bodywork

Postby imhappy » Fri Sep 04, 2009 1:44 am

hi everyone... here are some pics of my progress. i have the whole back seats and panels out to do the lowering springs and shocks. im removing my tint and going to try to put some on myself.... and the car is now sanded down and waiting to be painted. i bought some tack cloth to wipe it down and also will use alcohol and a microfiber towel. i also posted a pic of my keyblade that i am going to bring to anime expo or comic con ( sora from kingdom hearts )

anyone watch boxing or ufc here??

I laughed at the keyblade.

Anyway I'm all for messing up and doing it again though. Rarely anyone gets it right the first time without experience. "Getting it done right the first time" or "Do it once, do it right" applies to people who don't want to use up alot of resources (read "time & money"). If you're a hobbyist then you have all the time in the world and as long as you have a steady cashflow then projects like this shouldn't bother you. There's always going to be bumps in the road no matter how well you plan things. Even it's your first (second, third, etc.) time doing it you'll probably mess up somewhere. Obviously you're in it for the learning experience as you stated so you're expecting a few mishaps here and there. I don't think it's that you watched too many "Pimp My Ride" episodes, I personally agree with you in that in order to FULLY enjoy the fruits of your labor then you have to sew the seeds yourself.

I fully support your upcoming failures and successes with this project. Especially a paint project because those are always fun, not to mention it's going to be one of your most valuable skills if you like playing with cars. My only advice to you would be that it probably won't come out perfect (or the way your imagined) even after several attempts, in the end you'll probably figure out that there was much more work to it than you had originally planned, but hey, all the time in the world and a steady cashflow will fix that. I'm not saying you're going to become a pro over the next several months, but I'm sure you'll have gained enough experience to guide your project towards that perfect paint job.

Might I add that since you get to choose a color, that you go with something cool like a metallic [insert color here]? Of course, that's AFTER you've gotten the painting thing down. Might as well right? I mean when's the next time you'll end up repainting the whole thing again?

my car was originally metallic black and i thought a jet black might be nice. im not expecting a show car paint job but i am expecting something that looks presentable. yeah the keyblade is pretty huge... its as tall as me and like 3x bigger than the keyblades that everyone else has. yea this should be lots of fun , cant wait to take pics of the finished product.
