exhaust question

exhaust question

Postby JvR » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:10 am

Hi you all,

I have a question about my my exhaust:
my whole exhaust needs to be replaced.
So in September, a guy is going to weld and install the new exhaust.

I already have the OBX header + y-pipe and metal (header)gaskets.
He is going to weld on the y-pipe a performance catalyst and a nut for the o2 sensor.

-I asked him to use 2.5" pipe.....i don't know if that is the right size?
-I'm going to ask him to weld a extra nut for a a/f sensor...i don't know the right spot?
-Is there something i also need to ask him?

Thanks a lot! :wnw:

I forget to mention i drive with a s/c :morning:

2.5" will be fine. A 3" exhaust would yield maximum performance since you're boosted, but there's usually a trade of hp for torque.

As for the a/f bung, it needs to be before the cat in the y-pipe. Make sure it's mounted at an angle as well.

Frank did you measure your OBX headers and y-pipe? I heard they were 2.5" and I didnt believe it until I actually measured mine and the inside diameter was in fact 2.5" although OBX marketed it as a 3" pipe. By the way, I have the newer design OBX pipe. Great numbers regardless.

obx is 3 in, and if your sc'ed you want 3in exhaust, because your forced air inducted, you want it to flow freely................ :drinking:

I swear Frank you have that chart in at least a dozen threads...c'mon.

On topic, I agree with everything everyone else said so far. Good Luck.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

It was only marketed as 3" for a short time then the listing was later changes. Somehow the 3" persisted probably because of the catback.

2.5 will be fine SCed Dat was running 2.5 no problem. A three inch catback with that header will give more power proper tuned but it is not necessary.

You could also import the 3" OBX catback but it may be expensive.

are you getting 2.5 inch dual exhaust?

The catback is everything after the catalytic converter back all they way to the exhaust tip.
