P0440 -> P0441 -> P0446

Check engine light came on this morning during my commute to work. All to do with the charcoal canister - I had it happen last year, reset it and didn't have any issues. Anyone have any ideas as to whats causing this or how to fix it?

i was going to post on the P0446 thread i made but then i saw this one. My light just went on again too. I have the p0446 code too. Charcoal canister. I reset it also and after about 100 miles it lit up again. I need a solution ASAP because I need to pass inspection before this month is over. I was planning on taking it to Toyota tomorrow.

How much did a new charcoal canister cost?

Some guys are saying to replace the gas cap.

Advanced auto parts will tell you for free.. There are also OBDII(?) scanners to help you determine the code and clear them.

How are your lines? thers like 5 or six that go back and forth between the tank, motor, evap ....

Have you removed the plastic cover and checked all the evap lines.

Also I think there are two lines that go to you intake my lower one came off once and I through 440.

This might sound stupid but when was the last time you checked the gasket on your fuel cap? It will keep all that gas vapor in and dust dirt out.

My P0446 was the Charcoal Canister and unfortunately a valve went with it. $700 from Toyota.

I was better off with the kingsford...... lol

Mine was the valve on top of the canister. For my wife I am not sure but it turns off during the winter and I get it inspected then.
