OBX Headers Feedback

OBX Headers Feedback

Postby anttarz » Fri May 08, 2009 7:08 am

I am looking to purchase a set of performance headers for V6 (1MZ-FE - California Emissions) The bung ripped off while removing the A/F(O2) sensor from S1B1, now I have a 2.5" hole.

I have a few questions abouts about the OBX headers:
-Will I be able to pass emissions (no check engine light)?
-Any fitment issues?
**Im pretty sure there are no fitment issues from what I've read.
-Are the gaskets, if included any good or should I got OEM?
-Any other feedback?

Thanks!

Yeah you should be fine i think, as long as you hve your O2 sensors, and catalytic converter.
The OBX setup doesn't come wit a catalytic converter, it comes wit a resonator.
The y-pipe hangs a bit low though.

I was reading some reviews on OBX headers and alot of people say that its not an exact fit and alot of negative reviews on diffrent websites and diffrent cars, i dont know if its the same on our solara's or if they have improved. Just lookin' out.

-Will I be able to pass emissions (no check engine light)?

No not as they come from the OBX factory. You will get a code for no cat and will need to cut off the resonator and add one. Or install an o2 sim.

-Any fitment issues?

None known

**Im pretty sure there are no fitment issues from what I've read.
-Are the gaskets, if included any good or should I got OEM?

Get OEM for the area between the head and the manifold.

^ exactly what midias said

fits great, and also comes with gaskets, but they are all fiber gaskets. I replaced my manifold gaskets with oem metal ones htough

The negative fitment issues you prob. read bout were the older style headers. They now employ the JPP design so fitment is much better and like the others said, go with the oem metal gaskets.

Any suggestions on an O2 sim?

Any suggestions on a cat to add?

If I were to use the OBX headers without adding a cat (use O2 sim) how much louder will the car be at start up and idle?

O2 sim I hear underdog racing is good.

For a cat thunderbolt makes a nice cheap OBD2 stainless cat.

Magnaflow makes a better filtering but more expensive version. I prefer metal core vs ceramic for better flow but cost goes way up.

Sound would probably not change between the 2 because the OBX headers use a resonator instead of a cat which will remove rasp and make the exhaust sound deeper and a little quieter.

URD O2 sim FTW. Had one for about 2.5k and no more "your o2 sensors are missing" CELs. Very simple install.

URD sells the 02 simulator and def. go with it. My friend wired mine up for me when we installed a highflow y pipe with high flow cat and that was at maybe 70k or so. I just turned 100k and no CELs.
