You tighten everything properly?? rear strut bar maybe ? is it oem or TRD? also check your end links, and maybe your top hat bolt.

Did you remember to put the spacer under the big nut off the stock rear struts on the new rear struts?

yes i did that for sure. But i have a feeling its the strut mounts. Could it be that the springs aren't seated properly?

The strut bar is TRD. Got it from Reggie :-) but i don't think its that because its knocking all around well...i guess the rears could be effected by it

Midas, the spacer that big round metallic thing that kinda looks like a nut? Or rather, with mine, I noticed I didnt have one on one rear one for my factory struts when we dissassembled them a while back so we used a nut that fit over the shaft underneath. It just about matched the other size height/diameter wise. This should have been ok?

If the springs are not fully seated on the insulators, you can get knocking.

If your rears are making noise, it's either the springs seated incorrectly or the end links. There are no bearings in the rear mounts to go bad.

Noises up front can be the symptoms listed above, or the actual bearings in the mounts. You can even get knocking with new bearings if the bearing cups aren't properly greased.

Front OR Rear knocking causes:

Sway Bar Links
Bad sway Bar Bushings
Strut Mounts
Incorrectly seated spring

ALL FRONT OR BACK!

^Aside from the rubber being totally shot, how do the rear mounts go bad?

The rubber inside the mount itself. I have had the clunk on my car, as well as several other Gen 3/4 camry's I've been in

Wow, that rubber is thick as hell. My buddy's gen 3 had 330k on the odo w/ no problems on the original rear mounts, but I guess I shouldn't generalize.

Oddly, it seems the Gen 4 Cam/Gen 1 Sol rear mounts break more then the fronts, while on the Gen 3, the fronts break more then the rears, go figure.

On a side note, the rears that broke on mine were all defective ones from AutoZone. Finally after 7, just bite the bullet and got them from dealer and 2 years later, no issues.

Where is it comin' from??
Front or back??
If you've torqued all the bolts down, and still havin' knockin' sounds, it's your strut mounts.
Don't let it up like this:
