Magnaflow Muffler + Test Pipe ( New Pix Added 4-12 )

I installed a new muffler, it is a Magnaflow 3" race series muffler ( Model # 14835 ).

New Pix, 4-12
Heres some better daytime pix as promised. Sorry my car is so dirty.
Also, snapped a few photos of my sister's Demonic hellcar. Hahahaha 8)

Her car is dirty too lol.

Some final thoughts on the exhaust with straight pipe.
This exhaust is LOUD. Im not sure if I want to run this setup on the street or custom fab a silencer piece. There is a bit more torque from freeing up the last restrictive piece of the exhaust and running catless, but not much more torque. Its a lil more fun on the freeway, around 60 with overdrive off, even partial throttle pulls tremendously well.

I had a couple of reasons for doing replacing my muffler.
1- I liked the Apex World Sport muffler, but I never liked that it sagged a lil bit toward the tip ( pointed slightly downward ) and also, because of the size of the thing I scraped constantly on driveways. Also, the muffler wouldnt really tuck because of the offset tip and the sheer size of the canister, and when I got to the point where I was happy with the fitment, the muffler would rattle on the frame.
2- I heard Magnaflow mufflers sound pretty deep, and I wanted a deeper more rumbly sound from my exhaust.

Image
Here you can see how large the canister is, and how far from the bumper the tip sits.

Image
You can see here the slight downward angle of the muffler

So here are a few bad pix of the Magnaflow muffler ( sorry it was night time )
I promise Ill get more later on.

The muffler was welded onto a mandrel bent 3" pipe, linked up with a flange to the JPP setup. I had him weld on a custom hanger, but on second thought it looks a bit nasty cause of the slight discoloration from the weld spots ( to the right of the tip ). Without the hanger, this muffler angled down too, though.

While I was at the shop I told them I also wanted to have a test pipe made for my car. I think they may have ordered this test pipe, its stainless with 3" flanges.

And now, here are some videos...

For those of you who dont remember what my apex sounded like, I found an old rev video when I first got the jpp 3" with apex muffler

This video is with the Magnaflow muffler with JPP high flow cat

Rev video with Magnaflow muffler with Test pipe ( no cat )

http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/Mr_Chunks/?action=view&current=DriveBy.flv
Quick little drive by video. Greg behind the wheel, Im pretty sure he didnt do more than 40 or 50% throttle ( definately not WOT )
This video was done with test pipe installed.

http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/Mr_Chunks/?action=view&current=Partial.flv
Windows open, patrial throttle punch to WOT. Initial punch to 50%, gradual press down to WOT. ( I was afraid to punch WOT cause my tired ol stock trans has been refusing to shift sometimes ).

http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/Mr_Chunks/?action=view&current=ShittyTrans.flv
This is what happens when all aspects of the launch go wrong. First I got massive tirespin ( bald tires ). Then the torque steer kicked the wheel left, then my transmission refused to shift out of first and bounced off cut for a split second. This is caused by running a stock trans on 6 psi with instant boost mod, disabled EBC and beating the shi.t out of a 130k mi trans. I cant wait for ipt trans with LSD.

holy crap, i didn't know the Apex hung that low. The magnaflow looks much better from all angles. Can you feel any difference with the test pipe installed?

I couldnt feel a huge difference on the test pipe.... although it was late and I was tired....

Im sure it will pay dividends when I go and tune. My car is running pretty rich right now.

test pipe was 40, madrel bent section with muffler and hanger 80
I bought the muffler for a modest 140.

its a bit more than most shops but the quality is definately there. The muffler sits straight and tucked and the test pipe fits like a charm

I really wanted a Tanabe Hyper Medallion muffler, but they dont sell the muffler universal with 3" inlet, overall I'm happy with this one. When lookin from above ( standing height ) down, the muffler looks a bit puny but from behind, from the height of other cars it looks perfect. Plus it doesnt scrape.

Looks good. As far as sound I like magnaflow with cat the best then apexi then magnaflow without cat. Maybe a short highflow resonator instead of the cat would get tat rasp out. But it sounds amazing
