Car stalls after warm start up

Car stalls after warm start up

Postby robbievelasco » Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:43 pm

My car will start fine when it's a cold start but if I drive somewhere like to the gas station and try to start my car again it starts and stays at 1-2000 RPM and then turns off and stalls. I just replaced my starter and I read somewhere that it might be my spark plugs.

2 questions:
1. Is it possible to just replace the spark plugs and that will solve the problem?

2. Is it hard to change the spark plugs with 3 of them in the back of the engine under the intake manifold? ( I think it's the intake manifold, I already forgot)

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Its possible that it could be the spark plugs, but I'd be surprised. What it sounds to me is a fuel delivery problem. Do you have any check engine lights? If so, Get the codes read. That will tell you alot. Personally...I'd pull the injectors and inspect the wiring, the nozzles and the clips. As well as the fuel rails. As far as new plugs, you can change 1 or you can change 6, I'd reccomend changing all of them at the same time that way they are all on the same interval and when you buy more than 4 at my local auto parts store they give you half off on any more.

I will check that. It makes sense because when it starts to stall, I rev the engine to 3-4000 RPMs and then the car is fine. I don't have any check engine lights on though. I will clean the fuel injectors and see if that solves the problem. How would I check the fuel rail?

I would start by cleaning the MAF sensor.

I don't think its your spark plugs, or the maf. Either of those issues would pose an immediate problem on cold and hot starts.

Perhaps you have a fuel delivery problem (fuel pump mainly), or maybe a coil pack.

I actually fixed the problem but I don't know if it's a temporary fix. So far my car has been starting fine now. I used sea foam in the car engine and in my gas tank. I hope my car stays fine. Thanks for all your help!!

Most likely the idle air bypass valve, had the same thing happen, just make sure that if you keep your foot on the accelerator the car will stay running, and if you let go off it then it will stall.
