Ok, so, I'll be getting a nice new cat-back exhaust for my car, (not saying which yet..) However, I think my cat is getting clogged or something somewhere has a leak as it smells pretty bad. I'm not sure of what if its gas or "eggs" What would be best beneficial do you guys to gain power? I'm N/A I'll be running a Injen cai + a cat back exhaust. I passed emission here in il about like a month ago so i'm not worried about that. Should I do straight like test pipes or straight pipe? should I just go to a shop and ask for a custom y-pipe? Is it best to just buy the OBX? I'll be low on cash soon too so let me know what you guys think the cheapest yet best way to go is. If I keep a cat, which cat should I get?
are avalons supposed to be this fast?

What are the emissions rules where you live. Does your inspection process include checking the cat or the computer?

or more importantly....outside of official emissions tests, are there people that can pull you over to check for a cat?

the only reason why I don't run a straight pipe (outside of my conscience for the environment lol) is that in Ontario, there are actually safety and environmental officers that check cars/trucks for safety as well as visual checks for emissions and if you're caught without a cat = big ticket.

you can consider a gutted cat though...

Here is the deal I am not sure what your budget is or how much work you want to do. But the easiest way to replace the cat with the least amount of work would be to buy the magnaflow Y pipe. It is easy to install direct bolt on and comes with a magnaflow cat preattached.

The OBX headers would be much harder to install because of the rear bank and have a resonator instead of a cat. But the OBX headers would probably be the best gain.

If you want to go custom / second cheapest root I would but a 2.5 inch cat and I can help you find the right on and cut the old one off and weld the new one to the stock Y pipe and put a flange on the other end. I have done it before it is very easy and works great.

The cheapest solution would be to remove the stock Y pipe and hammer a crowbar or other piece of metal through the cat until it is been gutted then reinstall. Wear a mask when gutting a cat I would rather put a dog turn in my moth than the heavy metals and crap thats in a converter.

Well, I live in Illinois, and I've never had to do "visual" checks. (then again theres never been a crazy modded car in my family) However, about a month ago the car passed emissions and all they did was hook up a computer to the car, then said I passed. I don't plan on wrecking my cat though by gutting it (just in-case i want to put it back) so what if I just go to a junkyard, find a cat off a camry or something, gut that, put it on the avalon + like a dats y-pipe. Will that give me any good gains? CELs? I hate CELs, I don't want them. I have my autos class with 2 lifts and plenty of tools, so working on the car won't be a problem, it's just what to get. I'll look more into the laws though.

My main question now how much power will I expect to gain off this set-up:
Dat's y-pipe - gutted cat - catback exhaust (maybe greddy evo2)
is it worth it? or
OBX headers/y-pipe off ebay - (something in between? gutted cat? straight pipe?) - catback
are avalons supposed to be this fast?

No one knows no dyno sheets maybe 5-10

Good luck finding a Y pipe or a long discontinued exhaust

OBX headers/y-pipe off ebay - (something in between? gutted cat? straight pipe?) - catback

OBX headers come with a resonator instead of a cat. Search would be a great friend as of now.

Actually, I have someone waiting right now for me to get the $ to get the evo 2 =] and a pm about the y-pipe asking if I'd be interested. Rare parts just keep coming my way =]

So don't worry how I'll get the parts, but, what is more beneficial? I'm a noob. I know. How much better of a gain will I get with the OBX set-up rather then just dat's y-pipe to a gutted cat? Midias, do you have aim or anything? It may be easier for me to ask and talk if you don't mind. I'm still learning. =[

If you want to go a Magnaflow cat, try the 93506 model, 2.5 inch opening or 94005, 2.25 inch opening have ran both on my RX300 (also has a 1MZFE motor)

Well, from what I've read this is what I plan to do
OBX headers - cut resonator and throw in a high flow cat (which, idk yet) - evo2

All this might take time though ($$) Is ebay the only place to get the headers?
What's the gain (or roughly) going to be?
