where you located?

Greg is a buddy of mine in socal and runs a 3mz/1mz hybrid 5 sp. The 1mz trans hooks right up to it.

I am in Arkansas. Not finding any 1mz's locally with low miles at a decent price. Finding better deals online even with shipping costs than anything local. And I am not even going to mention what they were asking for a 3mz at the 2 places that had them here.

So does anyone have info on who to get a JDM motor from or who not to get one from? I've never purchased one and don't want to get burned if I am forced to go that route.

Why do you want a JDM motor so bad there are huge amounts of 1MZs in the states.

I'm not stuck on JDM. I just can't find one used with less than 100k in my part of the states for less than $1200. (I think $1250 for one with 89K and needing timing belt, valve cover gaskets, and a tune up, with no accessories is a little steep) All the ones I find online are JDM and go anywhere from $700-1400 which is a wide gap.
Local yards have several with 120K-180K mi on the clock for $700-900 but was hoping for something with a little less mileage so I am not doing this again in 60k mi. I'd like this thing to be good for at least 100k if I am going to spend a couple grand on it a few months after I bought it.

my motor is full of sludge and has had 5-10 grams of metal shavings in the oil pan the last two oil changes. Was going to slap new crank and/or rod bearings in it to try to get a few more miles out of her but decided it wasn't worth the effort with all the sludge in the motor. For me at my skill level and my lack of a real shop where I am living I am not confident in rebuilding myself. I just moved to Arkansas 6 months ago and don't know any local shops and the ones I talked to gave me the bend you over the counter price on the rebuild and the shops looked like they specialized in Chevy/Ford motors more than imports. I just don't trust them.
I have a friend who I do trust to build/replace my motor but he is down in Baton Rouge, LA. I hate to have to drive 8hrs to do a motor swap.
Thanks for all the help guys and I will be replying to PM's shortly.

wow...too bad you're nowhere close to toronto...

if you wanted just a simple engine swap and had a $2500 budget, I'd be able to get you an engine with 100K on it and replace your engine and get you on your way within 2 or 3 days.

...like I had to do with my own motor in -30*degree weather over my xmas break lol.
