I was wondering if the supercharger comes closer to the firewall of the Solara than the intake manifold on the normally aspirated version. I'm doing an engine swap into my Corolla and the intake manifold is going to be a really tight fit, but I have a supercharger in the garage and I'm wondering if the engine would fit better with the supercharger.

It's higher I think, and maybe slightly closer to the firewall (Not too much). I'll seeif I can find comparison pics

*Edit* It uses the same rear mounting brackets, so it's the same with the firewall......

It;s still higher then the stock Intake plenum.

I was only concerned with distance to the firewall, but I'm glad you guys mentioned height, because that measurement is close as well. Looks like I might be better off putting the supercharger in my wife's car, as planned, and staying normally aspirated in the Corolla.

Thanks for the info.

Now I know why the supercharger included a different strut tower bar. Always figured it was just a bling thing.

When you install the S/C be sure to check the clearance with the ac line.
It will in most cases hit the metal line causing it to wear through and cause a leak.
IMO, it is closer. Because when changing the spark plugs you really need to remove the S/C, but you don't when you are NA. Just from my experience.
Got Boost?? :sweet:

it still extends out the back more than the stock plenum...by how much...not sure...but at least by 1/2" if not more. why not just take a tape measure and measure from the mounting bolts on the plenum to the rear

Well as much as I like the idea of supercharging (the corolla is supercharged right now), moving up to a V6 IS my horsepower bump. I think I can live without the S/C. I was just considering the idea if it makes it EASIER to fit under the hood. Not harder. The 6 cylinder is about a 100 HP bump and a 110 ft-lb of torque bump over stock and about 10 HP and 50 ft-lbs over what I have now. That should be plenty. Don't forget the Corolla is about 700 lbs lighter than a Solara.

Thanks for the info guys. Very helpful.

sounds like a sick swap! I agree with king, I think it does extend a good half inch towards the firewall, if not a little more. Good luck!

Personally I say if you already have the SC try to make it work the extra HP will always put a smile on your face and you will be glad you did every time you mash the gas.

I couldn't find anyone that had done the swap into this car, anywhere in the world. I did find some V6 into Corolla swaps outside the U.S. but as far as I could tell, they were different V6's and different Corollas. It might be a world's first, but I don't really know. All I can tell you is I can't find any help on this anywhere. The closest I could find was the 1mzfe into old MR2's (also a sick swap).

After I did the 4agze swap into my Corolla I realized that my wife's Solara had a newer engine, that weighed about the same as mine but had more horsepower, more torque AND better gas mileage. I immediately thought, man, why didn't I put THAT engine in my car?

It won't be easy. If the engine fits (which it looks like it barely will), the radiator doesn't. So I have to figure that out as well as a bunch of other stuff.

I hear you on the supercharger issue and I'm still open to the idea. I'll keep you posted. Right now, I'm still doing research and looking for a donor car.
