Req: Front Strut mounts replacement tutorial

Req: Front Strut mounts replacement tutorial

Postby mazen222 » Mon Feb 09, 2009 7:36 am

Has anyone replaced their own front strut mounts?

I have purchased them from ebay (including the bearings) and I will be replacing them during this week with a mechanic friend.

Not that I do not trust him, but i would prefer to have instructions on how to replace them the proper way.

Do any of you have tutorial for that or maybe something from a manual?

If not, maybe i could provide some pics and creat a tutorial for the next person who will attempt this.

Thanks!

After using the search function and searching for the word strut in the tutorial section of the gen 1-1.5 section I found some threads of days gone by that might help the thread titled "Front strut installation instructions
" might be very helpful. But tutorial improvements are always welcome.

I noticed in the last tutorial there is talk of the isolator. Was that just supplied with the TRD susepsnion or something that is used for OE? When I did my suspension I got new strut mounts for the front but it was only the mounts, I had to reuse the old bearings. I guess this is normal?

I think my front strut mounts were aligned properly. Everything seemed lined up right. If it werent, would I have been able to reinstall the suspension with the spring even seated right? Just want to make sure I didnt do something wrong. The car handles good to me so I dont think so. A lil noisy but I attribute that moreso to the stiffer suspension

The margin for error with the alignment of the mounts is fairly small, but it could still cause some noise if off by a degree or so. Mine are correct and still produce an occassional knock in certain instances. Bad bearings and/or lack of grease in the bearing cup usually causes noise.

Concerning the isolator, that's just the upper and lower rubber rings that the spring rests on to buffer it from the shock, which is OEM.

well, after all, i didnt wanna go through the mess of getting the spring compressors and waisting 4 hours on them and engining up not installing them correctly.
so i went to a mechanic, i asked if he would install them for 100$ (i know it cost more than that). At first he refused, then after some give and take he agreed.

and happy to say that waw! no more noise comming from the front... makes the car feels soooo much better! no more knoking and crap on each bump!

i just had to tell someone :P 160$ for the parts
