Need suggestions for performance upgrades

Postby mazen222 » Fri Feb 06, 2009 11:19 am

Well, I finally secured a job and the money is starting to flow again.
I've had my 1999 manual v6 solara since summer of 2007 and havent had any money to put on it. Now is the time! 8)

I am replaceing the front strutmounts and installing a new clutch (the old one is finito).

What are the performance mods that you guys would suggest would improve my car and add hp? money is not an issue... but i would not go for a supercharger.

The touchy part is that my car has about 130k miles on it... so im afraid too much power will kill it. But overall, its in excellent condition.

Im also thinking of getting a TRD RSB... any other suggestions? is a shortshifter worth the investment?

lol CP-e is its own brand. it's like the LV of intakes and I would SH!T MY PANTS if you could find one for $25 lol. Injen can run around 250 range and CPe runs close to 450. I got mine brand new for 300 and I highly highly doubt anyone can find a price lower than that.

.. but its so worth it! I wish money wasn't an option for me though dayum.

1. CP-e intake.
2. Jim's or ASG14 torque rod.
3. SuperPro dog bone bushin'.
4. Greddy Evo exhaust.
5. OBX headers and Y-pipe.

There are some ideas.

"crispone" I got you beat wit that cardboard turbo.
I got a plastic one in the works from school.

I got about 130,000 miles on my car.
And all i need to do is replace the valve cover gaskets.
Fix my power steerin' pump.
2000 Solara SE auto V6. Diamond White Pearl.
Top Speed Run finished at 130 mph. :o
Too many modifcations for the signature.

1. CPE Intake $400
2. RSB $150
3. Megan Stainless Exhaust OE style (sense greddy is discontinued) $420
4. Tq rod upgrade ~$40
5. OBX headers ~$320

I am at 166k miles and still happy.

-cpe intake
-obx exhaust/headers (do both!)
-tq rod
-ground wire kit
-nitrous, if you really want cheap power (but don't go too big, or you may blow your engine....but this is a suitable compromise IMO between adding lots of power, and being able to keep wear and tear minimal (unless you keep hitting the button))
-trd rsb
-suspension (struts/springs)

suspension and rsb are great for being able to take corners. straightline power is good to have, but it's much more fun if you can take that speed with you into the corner safely and surely.

nitrous isn't really a serious suggestion, unless you are REALLY craving that extra hp/tq. plus, it's not going to run continuously, so like i said, you can keep the engine stock if you aren't running more than a 75 shot. anything more than a 75 shot and i think you're gonna have to get new engine internals. BUT, you are gonna want to double check with someone who has done a nitrous setup on the solara to make sure of this.

Yep, I agree with everyone here.

TRD RSB - worth every dam penny!
CP-E Intake - next on my list of upgrades
Springs/Struts - Coilovers if you really want an awesome set-up
Headers - OBX, JPP if you have the dough
