HELP!! ENGINE PROBLEMO #2

Postby wid » Wed Jan 21, 2009 8:46 am

2 days ago when i statred up my car she seemed fine but when i put her in to d the engine started to studder real bad. when i accelerate normally on the pedal, i felt her doing the harlem shake, not just once but everytime i give her gas at a decent level. the only way that i can drive her with out any studering is if i gas her as light as possible. u can imagine the comotion i get behind me. so today i took her to the toyo dealer and they said that its has to do with the edu or edr or somthing i dont remember exactly, but he said, the dude said that he can replace the whole thing for 800 smackers. i was wondering could i get it cleaned instead of replaceing the whole thing i dont know too much about cars but i think the old saying the the dealers do over charge and exzagerate. but i dont have that type of mooney yet.two month back my baby did before but not as bad the dealers said that it was damaged wires after they fixed the wires for 88 bucks she was fine but i just want some advice from u TOP DOGS.

Have you changed your plugs, plug wires, and ran fuel injector cleaner?

You could also get a second opinion to see if that is the problem.

Many people who will actually give a helpful response will put a decent amount of time and effort into typing an easy to read and useful post. You should consider doing the same when you post a question it is expected if you want any real help.

Also adding some a decent amount of info would be great, the "HARLEM SHAKE" does not help much. Give some info such as when was your last tune up? Is the check engine light on? If so what is the code? Does it shake at all speeds? Have you made any modifications to the car lately?

So you took it to the dealer, did they give you work order or a piece of paper with the problem written on it? As far as I know the "EDU OR EDR" are not real things, they probably said the ECU and EGR. The EGR can be cleaned easily with some throttle body cleaner. I would suggest buying a manual at a local auto parts store they only cost about $20. Read the manual and learn the location of key parts under the hood. If your ECU is bad (not common) you have to replace it as it cannot be cleaned as it is the computer that controls the car.

^ I don't think anyone would care if you used capitol letters and periods in the proper combination when posting. Makes it much easier to read.
