a few things:

1) go introduce yourself in the introductions section
2) use the search function for questions before asking (to make sure they haven't been answered first)
3) Here's an aftermarket parts listing for the Gen 1
4) welcome to SG

oh yeah, and do you have a manual or automatic? if auto, then you may want to focus mostly on style mods, rather than performance mods (the auto slushbox really robs the engine of performance). if manual, then it's all about how much money you want to spend.

and give us an idea of 'tight budget' as that could mean anything from $200/month to $10/month, depending on the person's bills and income. the solara is a much more expensive car to mod compared to, let's say, a civic. there are fewer aftermarket companies that designed products for our cars, so the few that are around are a bit more pricey.

as for starter mods, i'd suggest either the TRD RSB or the CP-e intake. which are about $150 and $400, respectively.

No parts in your budget but maybe a drop in air filter.

Just start saving now and get the CPE intake it is the best bang fr the buck. A TRD rear sway bar is also a nice inexpensive mod. Next I would work on the exhaust. Your best choice for a prefab exhaust in one of the 2 megan exhausts. Personally I would just make my own because it is so easy and you can have exactly what you want.

In this economy, save up the mulla dude...and spend what you "WANT", take it from long time modder, the first mods' I've already said...should have been spend like such....and that....
Don't get me wrong, I'm not preaching don't spend..all I'm advocating, research before you do.

I know the feeling I remember when all I made after tax was 600 a week and before that when it was 200 a week but saving for the right mods was the way to go. And besides a supercharger that mod is the CPE intake.

Just save up for a long time man.
Don't start buyin' random shite off of Ebay.
I've been moddin' my car for almost 4 years, and i've made mistakes here and there but you learn.
Save up and buy name brand stuff for your car.

Intake: Save for CP-e intake.
Exhaust: Custom or you could find a TRD, Apexi, JIC or Greddy exhaust.
Suspension: TRD RSB first.
Suspension II: Poly bushin' kit.
Suspension II: Lowerin' springs, and aftermarket struts. [Don't lower your car wit coilover sleeves, or wit just the lowerin' springs, lower your car wit lowerin' springs and aftermarket struts. Done it once and do it right.]
Misc: TRD radiator carp, Jim's Torque Rod, SuperPro dogbone bushin'.
Brakes: SS brake lines, and Slotted rotors.

I could think of so many stuff i got for my car.
2000 Solara SE auto V6. Diamond White Pearl.
Top Speed Run finished at 130 mph. :o
Too many modifcations for the signature.

First of all welcome. Second, I'm with you when it comes to some mods. I'm 17 and have a "tight" budget as well. My 99 is the automatic, but its got enough get up and go for me to want to give it some more oomph. Anyways, some cheap things that I've done myself are....Alpine stereo system (300 total), FSTB, blackout headlights, oil catch can, modded my grill a bit, and I've done all the regular stuff... such as plugs, NGK wires, oil...etc. I'll also probably be adding a Fitch fuel catalyst to my car at some point in the near future too. I don't have a lot of money to spend. All you've got to keep in mind is to look around for deals, don't just buy something because its there. I've got a CP-e intake system on the way for my car, that will be the most expensive thing I've done.

I think Apexi, Greddy and TRD all all discontinued. All thats readily available is JIC, Megan, JPP and OBX. JPP and OBX are only good for SC applications because of 3 inch pipe.

I would go with the high wear parts first. Struts and springs, with new mounts are a great place to start, as on a '99 they're probably not in like new condition. A RSB upgrade is a great mod, and it's pretty cheap.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.
