a weird brake grinding sound? and long start?

a weird brake grinding sound? and long start?

I haven't been on in a while but anyways,

1.
Still driving the solara once in a while and lately I've been noticing a sound that comes on here and there usually at low speeds.

It's this grinding sound as if its a caliper locked in or a pad grinding into my rotor (s). I also know this sound is only coming from the rear.

I remember a year or two ago, I wanted to have some TokyoDrift fun in the snow by yanking the e-brake after that the noise started happening but not much til recently now since it's winter with snow. I do have new rotors in the rear as well as decently good pads so..

Also my ebrake line is NOT tight, I actually loosened it up because of the noise. I think it may be something related to the ebrake line or around it? LMK, thanks.

2.
Long start happens ONLY when engine is cold, I have a good battery, fuel pressure is fine (tested at 50), new plugs, injectors, starter, fuel filter, water pump, thermostat, timing belt, etc..
NO CODES show up. nothing.
I do not know if this is because of the crank position sensor, or what??
It's been going intermittently since around October/November.
No clue what it could be, I did clean off the crank position sensor when I did my major maintenance and the long start seemed to go away shortly, but now it's back. But my car starts up every time.
No rough idle issues no issues while driving.
This long start isn't like a 2-3 second long start, it's like a 5-6 ...
My car has also been fully seafoamed as of October as well so..

PS, my cel (along with my Trac Off light- yet no ABS light shoots on??) shoots on every once in a while since the weather got colder (30 degrees and lower) and i ran the code it says misfire in cylinder 6, yet I have new plugs, I just know I haven't change the wires just yet, do you think changing it would help?

well any news about any of these 2 things, let me know, thanks for your time. Sorry for the long typo.

I also have the brake grinding problem. I checked my rotors and pads and they are fine. I do ebrake drift alot, but nothing hardcore.

Sounds like both of you need to pull your rear disks off and look at the e-brake and then stop pulling the lever for stupid reasons.

If you don't use you ebake on a regular basis the cables will rust ans seize up. By use I mean pull it after stopping to keep the car from moving and yes know you auto guys can put the car in P but I still use the ebrake to keeps the parts moving on a regular basis. Grinding can be many things I would check all pads and sliders first and make sure they are well lubed and move freely. If you think your ebrake is fine just loose just adjust it all you need is a 10mm deep socket and a 6 inch socket extension.

Jeff, my car also takes abit to cold start. All my cars have. Especially if you park outside.

as for the misfire, did you check your gaps on your new plugs before you installed them? I know they come pregapped but better to know that it is correct instead of thinking it's correct cauze the box said so.

Dunno about the grinding sound. I'de do what midias said for that issue.

Both of my 99-2001 Solara had the same problem lol, 1st of all i thought cause of 99lara driftin and the way i was drivin like a jerk, turning left/right at high speed maybe caused the rotor/brake-pads or the ABS sound grindin like that, 2nd of all when i got 2001Lara ive noticed the same sound lol it might be normal, im not sure cause i checked everythin, they are fine. Maybe Power-steerin or the sharp or brake pads.
