Ok, King and I have discovered the stress the Torque Rod causes onto the upper bracker, causes a stess crack,t hat can lead to failure. Kings actually snapped. I took mine off to put on his car while we were testing things, and disovered mine had the crack just begining.

The crack forms in the middle, right along the center curve. You can see where the small rust spots are on the break. The EXACT same place as is forming on my car.

So PLEASE cheak yours periodically, as this looks like a when, not if situation.

Been there twice

had the one currently in the car welded, and reinforced, it has been in the car for about 3 months of daily driving, and nothing.

I have a spare one that I had on, and it started to crack, which is why I tokk it off. I will be reinforcing that one too.

how did you weld yours? just an extra piece of metal?

I was considering welding two of the braces together for a perfect reinforcement, but I haven't really taken the time for a good think about it yet

You could probably butt the pieces up against each other and then tig or mig it. I wonder how snug to fit on top of each other then you could weld the seams and have a double thick piece.

I took mine off and went back to stock before the car was totaled and I really didnt feel much of a difference honestly... maybe thats because Im on coilovers or something, hard to say. But yikes, thanks for posting that up.

Come to think of it.. Tq Rod on a fully stock all around mount would not surprise me. As all your mounts are mussy and weak with one piece of thin metal taking all the hits. I believe this mod is only good on a fully deck out motor mounts all around.

I believe the amount of play on the bottom end of the rod (the end with the heim joint) on the heim bolt may be a contributing factor as well. There are those including myself who placed enough SS washers on either side of the bolt/joint so as to reduce the amount of room that the rod can slide laterally, which may ease/lessen the amount of stress going into that top bracket/mounting point, preventing premature failure. Although, I'm sure if anybody's got any amount of rust on the bracket, it'll snap regardless.

I'm in dry-ass SoCal, and have only had the rod on consistently for a matter of weeks, but I'll be watching it now/

Same here, its more of an in-your-head effect. Only real world data was since I'm boosted, now going in reverse, the boost fitting rubbs against the trd bar.

True story on dats comment. Upgraded mounts all around would prolly do more good and reduce this stress.

i had them weld it at the seam, then they put 2 pieces of extra metal running on the bottom/inside of the mount, welded at the seams all the way. its been on for like 3 months no issues. once i get the rear mount reinforced all the problems should disappear.

Maybe my stock piston was entirely shot, but I noticed a huge difference after swapping in Jim's torque rod. It wasn't even really the take-offs that improved, but just normal driving that became smoother. My g/f hates riding in my car w/o it.

Yeah I just dont really get how it would change the feel of normal driving. The only thing I could see it changing is a constant wheel spin for a shorter time vs. a wheel hop for a longer period of time, but I dont really remember much of a difference when i went back. I think the difference I reported initially was all in my head.

Sure was nice having a car that could spin even one tire

My mechanic said something like this will Happen .

but I got to admit the rod looks good up in there ..

and by what everyone else is saying sounds like reinforcing the other mounts would help releive some stress and not focus on that main one ....so how makes better reinformcements for our motor mounts ???
