Gotcha! I forget about those pesky EPA Nazis. Here in the Motor City, there is no inspection or emission testing. So my 350Z has test pipes. (Please don't call Al Gore on me. I'm pushing global warming so I can avoid Michigan winters.)

I'd hate to hack up this pipe. If you have the room to put an aftermarket HF cat in the straight section behind this pipe, it would be cleaner. If they are doing more than inspection, ie emission testing, then it needs to be in this pipe for lightoff temperature.

Good luck with the project.

Well, the final product wont look like a hack, trust me 8)

and as for passing emissions. The cat that Midias picked out for me, passed with flying colors at the state inspection

I guess for the price you guys are better off just buying this over my Y pipe. Not to shabby. I still love my Y pipe and always will.

FYI- Equal length= better IS NOT always the case. You have to base it off liter output and revs and a whole bunch of things. Putting a 3 inch from the block to the exhaust tip on a motor too small is like running an open header. If the headers on the 1MZ are too big, no matter how you perfect the Y pipe, it will not run like people claim it to be. My Y pipe benefits at the time because it kept the stock headers. Toyota is a multi billion dollar company and wouldn't design a stock header like that if it was not efficient in some ways. So just because you see an equal length piping does not mean its better. Thats why turbo cars like supra and all does not always follow the equal length rules. Up to the turbo (base on power and motor) the pipings can sometimes be shorter or longer but the pipings are always the right and not too big diameter. Back pressure plays a role too.

This OBX stuff for the money is fine. Seeing how its not too bad I might just drop my project so everyone can have a little bling with some good gains I bet :). I honestly say I would sport it myself if I still had the silver solara. Because there is some solara out there that was the test car for this and if it wasn't a good gain then it wouldn't have ever made it to production.

Ok going back to sleep. Night.

btw, these are JPP copies...thats what i assumed in the begining but after looking at the jpp headers and these, they seem to be copies. Sweet.

They even copied the little cuts on the Header flanges :)

Your Y pipe is great I love it esp because I did not have to take off the manifolds which I have a feeling is a huge pain in the ass. The reason I want dawgs to get this is he already has a dyno of stock vs Y pipe and I am curious to see a dyno of y pipe vs obx.

Thats a lot lower than JPP.

of course, thats what OBX does. They wait for someone else to design it, then copy it with crappy materials and sell it for a fraction of the cost :)

Crappy materials?

JPP = steel the OBX are T304 Stainless steel

JPP used crap products and just threw rust proof over the steel.

OBX most likely has their parts made in Taiwan or China. I've had parts made there from 304 stainless steel and had no issues with quality. The OBX welds look good. I think the biggest concerns with OBX is fit.

I'm seriously thinking about getting this...Anyone (midias) have a suggestion about which cat to use with this?
TRD Bodykit, Eibach, Tokico, BBS, OBX headers/y-pipe, Custom 2.5" Magnaflow/Dynomax, PowerStop, Goodridge, AFE.

For max flow I would use a MagnaFlow high flow Converter 3.0" Spun Metallic part number 59959 they run about 100 dollars or a thunderbolt or flow master spin stainless ceramic cat both part number 410300 then run between 40 to 60 dollars. They are all OBD2 and EPA compliant so they should pass an emissions test.
