Led Gauge lighting test 3 different styles

Led Gauge lighting test 3 different styles

Postby Midias » Tue Jul 08, 2008 7:49 am

Recently one of my LED bulbs in my gauge cluster died so I decided to try a few different direct 194 bulb replacement styles. Of the 3 I tried one was a clear winner in terms of intensity and spread.

I tried a wide angle single high power LED with a diffuser tip to spread the light. A 4 LED angle replacement bulb and a 5 LED radial bulb with 4 pointing to the sides and a high power pointing forward ( PICS BELOW). The winner was the 5 led version it had the most intense light and the best spread especially into the corners. The 4 led was second with some bright spots but it was a little weak in the corners. The diffuser was a great spread but not enough light. I will get pics of it tonight.

In the end you need 5 bulbs but get more maybe 6 or 10 because I have found sometimes you get a bad one in the bunch because of sweet china production quality.

The 5 led is the type I have...in clear white. Overall I am pleased with the result, although the white is never as "hyper" as we prefer. Looking forward to the comparison.

Not to thread jack but this is what it looks like with the same bulbs in cool white. The blue i believe turns out a lot brighter then white due to the green tint over our gagues.

More of a dark purple I think I over exposed both shots and it came out pinkish.
