HID's or colored bulbs?

HID's or colored bulbs?

Postby BadAngel » Sat Jun 07, 2008 3:45 pm

What i really want to do is get a blue tint to my lights because i am going to do all of the lighting in my car with blue LED's (including underglow). I want to know if i should get blue bulbs for the stock setup like sylvania cool blues ... or should i just buy an HID kit? If so what are some good companies to look into?

Its no question, HID over halogen knock offs...the answer is of course HID.

If ur low on ur budget and cant get a name brand or a set from mark here (krazyazn) <- McCulloch kits which some of us here baught from

here's a link to his thread. http://www.solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t=8893

as for the low budget ones....u can go to www.vvme.com and get a kit from them. People think they must suck because of the low price, this is not the case in my opinion cause i have installed two or more kits for friends who have brought them to me that baught it from that website, and the kits look and operate great.

I rocked those colored bulbs for 1 year before finally wising up and getting HIDs.

Nokya, PIAA, anything will never go as well as HIDs,

HIDs over anything else. IF you want just a slight blue tint. get 6500k on HIDs. not 8000k ,. I had 8000k before and I didn't liek it to be honest. to me it's 4300-6500k. with OR without projectors. nothing more nothing less.

If you dont money yet for hids, dont waste money on imitation stuff or those mock "hid xenon" bulbs or even those silverstars, just get some patience, wait, and then get some hids.

you'll never go back to stock lighting again.

allright its not a money issue, I just assumed that if the bulbs yielded good results, then there would be no reason to get HID's since I don't really care how bight they are... but hell if HID's are better than I'll just get them.. now the only question now is the color intensity... jeff, you said that 6500k was a slight blue tint, but how much more blue is 8000k, cuz i wanted a nice blue?

depending on most company it usually isn't a deep blue (thats 10000k and that 10000k is pure stupid dont get it). 8000k is kinda a light-medium blue, BUT dont forget the higher the number (kelvin rating) the more color you get (bluish or purple) but the less light output you'll receive. either way, a 8000k bulb will always have more light output and color than a colored halogen bulb, but remember HIDS main purpose was for safety, you can get both safety and looks with 6500k in my opinion.
When i had 8000k, i knew it was much better than stock halogen bulbs (and colored bulbs are 1000x worse than stock halogen bulbs, their light output sucks!).. BUT.. it was just.. not good enough.

at 6500k when I had them it was great. BUT I only took mine out cuz lol it was too common so I just went with 5000k and its a pure white slight reflective purple tint (liek the color you see on audis when you look at the beam dead on).

oh and you say you dont care about brightness? you're going to want to.
If you only want it for color, then hell get colored bulbs. HIDs do a whole lot. 8000k in rain vs, 65000k in rain is a HUGE difference.

Well I don't me an i want it WORSE than stock lol what i mean by that is that i have been doin' fine for four years with the stock bulbs so it really shouldn't matter, but i am still having a bit of trouble visualizing the shade differences between 65000k and 8000k... I'll have to look further into it. also... those vvme's are less than a hundred dollars, so if they are that cheap and I am going to get much better results, then it makes sense... but for me to spend like 200 just because I want blue lights would be a bit stupid

----EDIT----
o.o didn't need to do much looking, they have comparative pics on the site with details on the color of the light... From the pics, the 8000k and 1000k look really blue... the major difference is that the 8000k is 3 times the normal halogen output, and 10000k is 2 times the normal output, so you lose quite a bit of light, but will this still be more light than the stock solara lights?

o.o well then if you say that 8000 is the max that would be safe and would make sense... then I think thats what i am going to get. Sorry to be so stubborn but I really want that blue look... now does someone want to tell me which kit i should be getting on this page? I am a bit confused as to what the difference is between the kits... I am going to assume the more expensive one is the one I want?

I just buy the cheapest HID in here for $73 shipped so far so good.

6000k or + will make your eye extreme tired with more than 1-2 hours drive at night.
