Mine was sneaky...just kept throwing up the P0420 code.

No signs of the usual cat gone bad. The code would come on, disappear for a few days, then come on again.

OK here is the deal with the stock cat it is welded to the Y pipe. BUT it can be easily cut off and replaced with a universal and a new flange but you would need to weld the cat to old Y pipe. It is actually very easy I have done it twice once on my own are and once an a 98 camry V6. On the stock Y pipe if you cut close to the cat where the pipe is nice and straight and round a 2.5 inch cat will slip right over and weld on fine.

I thought on a V6 it wouldn't make a difference?
Why do some go with a straight pipe they?
The rear sensor would only monitor IF the cat is working and does not have an affect on performance or fuel trims?
Now, on a I4 it's I'm not sure, a totally different setup, probably only 2 sensors. So the affect might be different.
But, the rotten egg thing remains the same, either V6 or I4.
Got Boost?? :sweet:

I would love to go straight pipe, but the thing is, troopers in NJ carry around a stick with a Mirror on the end and they check on cars that have a modified exhaust. If there is no cat, the car gets impounded and u get a heavy fine. VERY heavy, in the G's.

so, i might as well just run a high flow cat, its only about a 5whp loss, even if its 10whp, its still worth it compared to having the car impounded and having a heavy ass fine on my ass.
