Rear Sway Bar end link

Rear Sway Bar end link

Postby Akfahad » Wed Apr 02, 2008 5:09 pm

After trying to install my CO's on the rear, I found out that my rear sway bar end link's were seized up. so i had to order 2 new one's since i'll have to cut the old one's out. went to autozone and ordered myself a pair, this is what they gave me:

this one matches up exactly to the OEM one, same size, length, etc.
Here is the other one that came with it:

Obviously, two very different sway bar end link's. So I had them order me another one, expecting to get the same one as in the first picture, but instead got the same exact one in the second pix. The two are the exact same length, the bolts are the same, only difference is the circumference of the actual round piece that pivots. Notice:
One that resemble's stock:

versus the other one:

It's a little bit bigger. Question now is, will the bigger round piece affect anything? I'm putting this in tomorrow, so any input is appreciated.

the second one looks thicker as well.. = good

as for the fitment, it should be fine, it's not that far off, and it shouldn't be up against anything where it can't move anyway

is the second thicker one a moog one? I've heard that they're one of the best oem-spec aftermarket ones

problem with the 2nd one TRW is that you have to find a thin enough wrench to hold it in place while you also put on the nut. Problem is i had to pretty much make my owncause all of them were too thick.

It eventually worked, but was a pain, i would much rather have the stock versions (allen)

I have the TRWs I bought them because they were thicker. I also bought an 18mm wrench and spent a few minutes on a bench grinder with it. They work great and come off easier than the Allen key. Enjoy them.

When I had my mechanics working on my 99 last week, they pointed out that one of my rear sway bar links was seized up too. The back right, but the the left was in perfect condition. They didn't have time to do it then, and I haven't been back there since... they say its not a big deal, that I just may hear extra noise coming from the back when I go over a bump or something. Is that true, or should I it fixed soon?

^^if they didn't try very hard to get them off, then you shouldn't hear noise at all. But if you do hear noise, at least you know what it is. It's not one of those things that requires immediate attention, you can definitely wait to get it fixed if you don't have the funds.

I'm getting mine done since I'm re-doing my suspension and they need to come off, plus it's one of my pet-peeves if I hear any kind of noise.
