$800 to pass inspection!!!

$800 to pass inspection!!!

I just have to release some tension... mechanic called me and it's gonna take $740 + $37 (test fee) to pass NY inspection!!! That's the cash price (no tax).

I have had a few CELs I've been clearing with my cheapo handheld, so I knew this was coming, but it sucks!!!! :x :x

Need to get MAF sensor replaced, air intake sensor, EGR system. Also included is a antifreeze flush (said there was sludge in my stuff) and 1 qt of oil (slow oil leak somewhere). All that stuff hasn't been done yet, so I guess 9.5 yrs is a good run.

Oh yeah, 2 of my 5 rims are f'd, too, causing slow leaks- not to mention uneven tire wear. AND there's a steering fluid leak!!

Need a job that provides a company car!!!!

How many miles?

Did you try cleaning the MAF sensor first?

Inspection Stickers Sold Here! Naagh, just kidding. Man I'm glad I don't have to go through all that where I live. I think just 20 miles away in Nashville they do have some kind of inspection though.

I am confused if you have been clearing the codes why did you even try to get it inspected. I would start cleaning the MAF and EGR then drive the car for a few hundred miles let the computer reset and don't clear the codes. Then read the codes and figure out what is left and work from there.

So for a grand total of $798 I received a sticker!! ughh, it works well now, so whatever. Gotta pay to play sometimes. When taking off the EGR valve unit, the bolts broke plus needed new EGR gaskets, so it was a few more $ than originally quoted.

I got it inspected because inspection expired in Feb. I knew EGR was going to be a problem- I wasn't going to work on it, though, because it's way behind the engine and PITA. The MAF was totally doable but I already had the appointment and was in Salt Lake City all last week for work (& great skiing!!) so I didn't have time to do didley on the car. I prob would have saved ~100 for the MAF work, so I am def pissed off about that... it's a simple plug & play part. I did clean the MAF area a while ago but didn't do anything- it needed to be replaced.

Next step is deciding whether to just replace the 2 f'd OEM rims i have or just get a new set. i've wanted to put on a nice set forever but haven't had that extra cash. my friend has a barely used set of 18x8.5 that i could put on, but would def need new tires for a +2 ratio.
