Problems after SRI installation (Injen)

Problems after SRI installation (Injen)

Postby chrom3titan » Mon Mar 03, 2008 2:39 pm

well, my car to tell you the truth really is not performing better after the SRI install. Its literally half as fast. When i floor it; it takes 2 seconds just to go and it doesn't even go faster overall. Also my RPM's are messed up, like when I step on the gas the peddle isnt as sensitive and it takes more effore to go. I have no idea what the hell.. I was careful with the o2 sensor and installed it properly. SO basically my cars performance is down seriously 45%, and my check engine light is on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also another minor problem, after installing my HID's my traction control light came on, and I'm stumped.

^x2. My CEL came on as well when I installed mine. I think the car senses the change in airflow and the CEL is triggered? I just unhooked the negative battery cable for about 1 min and plugged it back up. No problems since.

That is a good point did you unhook the battery during the install. If not unhook the negative cable wait 15 minutes reattach start it up and try again. Your ECU may not have liked the change and could need a reset. Otherwise check the smaller vacuum line when mine came unhooked my car ran like ass similar to what you described back when I had my cai.

^^^^x3
those are the exact two things i was thinking of.

1) is MAF backwards? when installed, the narrow end w/ the 'cross' goes forward (not trying to insult your intelligence, just stating the fact of the matter, if it were backwards). the reason this sounds likely to me is that you say 'literally half as fast' ... which could happen (feasibly) if the MAF sensor was backwards...though i don't know if anyone has ever independently confirmed this malfunction d/t reversed installation.

2) Unhooking the neg term on the battery lets the ECU reset. if it's a persistant problem, then the CEL will trigger again, and you'll be back at square one. if not, problem solved. my CEL came on when i installed my custom intake, but it ended up being coded as P0135 (O2 sensor failure, bank1sensor1).

ALSO,
the trac control light might be on b/c on your CEL. it's a redundant warning, but it happens (my CEL is on, and then my Trac Light turned on and stayed on indicating that there was an unresolved problem...). for me, they didn't light up simultaneously, the CEL came on first, then when i tried a moderately-hard launch, the wheels stuttered and the trac light lit up and stayed lit up.

if you haven't taken your ride to autozone, do that, have them pull the CEL code, and then we'll be able to help you out with more reliable information.

also, double check all the connections to the CAI, if there's a leak or poor hookup, that MAY be problematic...though i don't know what the problem would end up being (maybe the airflow would be too turbulent to get a good airflow reading? ergo the delay in pickup as well as the 1/2 power).

GL and hope you figure it out

come to think of it I didn't disconnect my battery lol ! I will go out and do that when I go have a cig in a few mins, and I will let yall know whats up with that lol. But could that also effect performance? My performance is terrible crappy, I will recheck my hoses but i'm pretty sure their on there pretty tight because I was super careful installing the hoses, and I'm 100% sure the sensor is positioned correctly, Thanks for the quick and informative responses guys, I'll get back to yall shortly.

okay guys, well i fixed the problem. ofcourse it wasnt my genius idea to just unplug the battery for a few minutes it was yalls.. so THANK YOU lol! Performance is up like 60% lol, im sure its because their was no freakin sensor to give air to my engine lol, and gas mileage is decent, with an extra vrooom!

PS: I was at the mechanic because my master cylinder failed (only at 90k.. which is really weird for a toyota..) and he did it for me, so heads up on the intake installs guys, and thanks again!
