For the ones of you that push your car fairly hard...even if occasionally...

Do you know what speed 2nd gear tops out at? I've been thinking about my 0-60 time lately, and from most of what I've done, it seems that I need to get into 3rd to hit 60....which is a bit of a bitch, time-wise because then it adds an extra shift to the 0-60 time...

I know that in real life it doesn't make much of a difference, but just for technicality's sake, I'd like to know...

I *think* that if I really red-line it, I should be able to hit 60 at the very top of 3rd....but I haven't had the chance to try too often since I don't get traction at that point....

Opinions from people who have a 5-speed?

I am auto, but I think that you should be able to hit 60 at the top of second. The top of 3rd seems extremely high to me. I've never driven a 1MZ-FE 5 speed but I have driven several Nissans and Mitsubishis. They seem to hit around 50-60 in second when red lined.

Yeah i was a little hard on mine today and noticed i was at 55 near the top of second, so 60 should be within reach since I dont push even close to redline.

sweet...perfect...thanks for the info guys...

cuz part of the problem is that since I'm canadian, my gauges are in kph....and 100kph is a bit more than 60mph, so I'm never sure, cuz it seems to hit just around there at the top of 2nd

and jake -> yeah, 60 at the top of 3rd would be abitch of a car to drive, but probably great for autocrossing lol...

that calculator is pretty cool...

yeah, the other thing that has to be taken into account would be wheel size for real-world tests

I guess I'll know when I take it to the track

Well I gave you the ratios and you can use the calculator and enter your wheel size.

ya know, this may be part of why the 0-60 time isnt rated all that great by auto info websites, like edmunds, ect.

lol...yeah, I know...so I was playing around with it a bit too. the question that it comes down to as well is if one hits the redline and shifts, or shifts right before fuel cut-off, cuz that would give an extra bit

and rob- sometimes I actually miss my auto....being able to hit 130kph at the top of second gear is nice...haha....

Using the calculator, if we had enough horses, we could reach 163mph in 5th... not bad, huh?

I'm not surprised either...

I've hit 150+ on my car with a car full of people racing my buddy's celi gts and the car just kept on pulling and pulling....it was pretty nuts.....

Its been said before but my 99 camry I can hit just north of 60 in second, around 90 or so in third, and Midas said 4th in 120 but my speedo was registering around 125 or so when I was in 4th racign a crx with the tach close to redline. Nio way I'll be able to max out 5th anytime soon (I wish though)
