weight reduction made easy....

How?!

I had this:
the D34/78

http://www.optimabatteries.com/optima_e ... _specs.php

Eh... pretty good, its 2 yrs old, still works fine.... but it weighs 43 pounds...

So, I changed for this:

http://www.bigcrank.com/motorcyclebatte ... BIG-ETX30L

Its a lot smaller, lighter, and the actual CCA is higher than advertised... my brother showed me a link where it was extensivley tested...

and its cheap... $85 and its dropped at your door.

Will provide follow up on how this works out.

Also looked into Braille batteries... same thing, at double the cost, except for the carbon fiber batteries...

Just an FYI.

Let me know man, I'm interesting in getting a new battery myself. how much does a typical battery weigh anyways? 30 pounds?

Yeah i was goin' to get a Optima, but switchin' the way the battery wires aren't for me.
Let us know how it works, and lighter battery for the Solara would be nice. :D

That's a decent price, and the terminals are interesting.

I had an optima in my accord, but didn't switch it over to the solara b/c I didn't want to mess with the cables. I got a toyota truestart and it's pretty diehard. I've pulled it out of the car and jumped my boat with it a couple times with no problems. Plus it has a 7 year warranty.

not bad...and understandable I suppose for the weight loss, but if you needed the optima for any of the reasons why people buy optimas, that battery will not compare

and unless the ccr's are more than double what they advertise.....it's still made for things with small engines with few electronics

if you have a decent system or live in the cold (nyc isn't bad, so you should be okay on that one), or have a v6 with a supercharger, I doubt it will hold up to your needs

Yawns....

Damn it was hellaciously cold out today... something like 24 degrees farenheit, wind chill bringing things down to like 10 degrees... crazy.

I thought about all the stuff you guys are throwing in there, went to start the car, thinking to myself, it would suck to need a jump... car started no problem, both HID kits kicked in, Heater worked, Drove it hard... no intermittent flickering (you should expect that when your CCA's are low).

No system in the car, just the JBL system, no SC :(... I know, I suck....

Motorcycle batteries are for motorcycles.... I agree, but if you can cut the weight of a car, and it works, why not?

The optima was in there cuz I thought of building a crazy system.... decided not to go too crazy, hence weight reduction was more of a gain for me.

Im gonna see if I can get the link to where they tested this battery against a Braille (popular among the Subaru community), it had the same results, at half the price.

Day 2... so far, so good.

wait till the wind chill is below zero... also, once the battery ages it will just get worse...

know where your coming from.. not trying to flame.. just wanted to make sure you knew the risks

you could gain 40 by pulling the spare tire... I see where youre coming from and it might be a cool idea to save a little weight, but I would be too concerned about reliability.

I got you guys.... trust.

reliability? Im taking a risk by being a guinea pig for our community... ;) Keep you posted on results.

I knew the risks, been around cars for a while. Thanks I didnt figure you'd flame anyone. I just wanted you to see that I looked at a few parameters before I took the dip.
