How much should I expect to pay for a timing belt replacement — parts and labor?

About a year ago, I was quoted by a dealer for a new timing belt & water pump. $940
If you add tax its probably a little over $1000

Good luck.

It cost me $650 at Toyota but that included the TB, water pump and set of spark plugs.

If you have the equipment, time and know how, definitely do it at home.

$320 at Mark's Garage. He's been in the business for 28 years - cool guy. Anyone in the Tempe/Phoenix area should check him out.

yup yup...labor is usually around 250-300 and then just whatever you pay for parts...water pump will usually cost more since more stuff has to be taken off

as for doing it yourself...it's not THAT hard...but it's not something that you want to tackle unless you're quite mechanically inclined...at least in the case of the v6

90k

Postby JMSinMaryland » Sat Dec 15, 2007 5:54 am

At 90k I usually recommend a timing belt, water pump, thermostat, cam seals and crank seals. I won't charge labor for accessory belts (serpentine belts) but depending on their condition it usually makes sense to change them out at the same time. Average for everything is usually 900-1200 depending on the car for all of the above.

Toyota service manager told me all this should be done at the 60k point but you can go untill 80k to do it.

Thanks for clearing that up JMSinMaryland, I feel better now. :)
