Replacing Fuel Filter and Pipe below

Well I have not been able to replace my fuel filter for the last two years sense I bought my last replacement. Why? Simply because of my good friend rust and his friend NY winters. Every couple of months I would go to the car get out the flare wrenches and vice grips and try again still I could not win. Finally I decided to WIN I went to www.fuellinerepair.com and bought a kit for repair http://fuellinerepair.com/page5.html the foreign kit. This was before I realized you could buy individual pieces but oh well. I used th 14mm 90 degree adapter, metal tube to nylon tube adapter and some 5/16 nylon fuel tube and I now have a fresh new filter. It was a bit of a pain to get the old off but a tube cutter helped. When my mom gives be back my digital camera i will get some pics up for all the other gen one guys.

k050 - 5/16 nylon to steel compression fitting $4.20

Ok Here are some pics I will get a under hood shot but it is snowy and 15 degrees out.

First off the Kit does NOT come with the nylon line. You can get it from the site or from advance auto parts it is in the help section and it is a doorman product. Using the nylon tube makes it easier to get the exact angle of the main pipe.

To start the old filter nice and rusty



Here is the Kit I have already removes a coupler and a 90 degree elbow.



Here is an overview of the parts needed



The coupler disassembled. The left side is for the tube and the right for the metal tube.



Here is the new pipe and 14mm adapter with tube and clamp.



And Finally the pipe cutter I used to remove the old pipe. Be careful and go slow when you crank it down because you don't want to bend the pipe or the nut and feral will not slide over. Also When you attach the nut and feral give your self plenty of room so it goes all the way down into the metal collar.



Here are the pliers I used to crimp the clamps.

Looks good. Just make sure to get the little clamp.

Also a tip put the filter in the factory clamp and then clamp the metal side of the adapter and then attach the line to the 90 degree angle and then cut the nylon to length. I did it with the filter attached first and it ended up being too long and not seating correctly and leaked. But the leak was real obvious and easy to fix.

PS, that fuel filter looks horrible!!! Mines just on too tight and i dont wanna deal with it, lol.

Yeah, i dont think anyone needed 12ft of nylon tubing. Looking like i know what im gonna ask for xmas since ive got a lonely fuel filter sitting in my tool box. So they nylon tubing dosent have to be an exact length, just no slack?

Soon this will need to be moved to the tutorial section...an answer to many peoples problems and only under $20 too...

When I get a couple more pics I will write a nice tutorial for that section. Also sense the new filter I have had no problems at all RPMS and no leaks at all. My top end also seems better do you think the old filter with 90K miles was a problem. Man I have been trying to get that SOB off for the last 40k miles. I just added another pict above of the pliers used to crimp the clamps. They are called end cutters.

did you notice a difference in mpg or anything? how many miles on your car? I have 121k!

Not sure about a difference in MPG I have yet to check. I have 155K on the clock and the last time I was able to replace the filter was 60K damn rust.

And yes you only need a few inches of tube. Just make sure when you cut the old off you leave plenty of room for the nut and ferrule to clamp on.
