TRD Sway Bar Squiking

TRD Sway Bar Squiking

Installed TRD Rear Sway Bar this May on a 2006 . Started squiking over every bump last week. What can I do other than add grease to bushings?

Thats it. Thats the reason it squeeks.

I recommend a high quality, good synthetic grease.

Dont use some cheap clay based grease. It won't last long.

Nothing else I've made to solve this problem...just grease it again and you'll not hear it again

Funny this came up, mine started squeaking this past week also. I was cussing the guy out who didn't listen to me when I said "Grease the crap out of it with synthetic grease". He used a dab of the stuff that came with it and told me it would be fine. It's in the 20's now and is gonna make it fun crawling under and pulling the brackets off to do it right.

A while back there was a thread about replacement bushings when these were out. Don't think an answer was ever found but will try the search thing and see if it works. If not does anyone have a part number and supplier? I'd like to pick some up for spares.

Pray to God for the bushings not to get worn out.

I find Teflon paste for plumbing applications works as a great grease.

I agree that it is the sway bar that is squeeking but the lithium wont work well. You need a silicone based lube. The lube that comes with the trd bar is best because its sticky like glue and really can't squeeze out.

I installed my TRD RSB myself (on 9/1/04) using the silicone grease supplied with it and as soon as it got cold here it started to squeak EXACTLY as LunarMistGray has described at the top of this thread. The bottom line is that the silicone grease supplied with the TRD RSB sucks in cold weather applications. It is also interesting to note that my stock RSB bushings were not lubed with a silicone based grease but rather a white (probably lithium based) grease.

I recall reading elsewhere that Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease works great in this application. It has an operating range of -37ºC (-35ºF) to +232ºC (+450ºF). For more info see: http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/ ... Grease.asp

As soon a I get the chance, I'll re-lube my RSB bushings with this stuff and let you know how it works.

EDIT - 12/20/04:
I was able to re-lubed my TRD RSB bushings with Mobil 1 grease over the weekend. This morning it was 13ºF outside and there was absolutely NO squeaking from the bushings on my drive to work. What an improvement over original silicone grease. Problem solved!
Here's a tip... the silicone lube is a pain in the a$$ to remove from the bar and the bushings especially if its cold. I found that WD40 does a great job of removing the old silicone lube.

This has worked for me so far in all temps. If you re-grease, use this or similar product.

Weird because I used CRC synthetic Grease and it worked like crap. For my money Silglide and Teflon paste are the best. BTW teflon paste is super thick and sticky.

I will post after I get home because I forget right now but I got it at home depot near the plumbing stuff. I have only heard one squeaked once sense Fri Jul 20, 2007 and that was after sitting 10 days in the 15 degree weather and by the time I got out of the driveway it was gone and that was 5 days ago.

Here was my original post

Make sure you use some good grease to lube up the swaybar otherwise it will be more than the squeaking that will be a problem for you.

I waited months before relubricating the rear sway bar on my car and when I took the bushing out to relube it, I saw some tiny dust-sized bits of the bushing came out from the raw rubbing.
