Performance - I know, but...

Performance - I know, but...

Postby cuznlucky » Thu Dec 06, 2007 5:02 am

I know this has been an asked and answered probably a million times and I've literally read at least half of the pertaining topics through searches, but I would like a few things cleared up if possible.

First I have a 2001 N/A SLE V6 Auto

I'm set out to get or upgrade the following;
* Improve factory grounding
* Jim's Torque Rod or make my own
* Jim's Fuel Kit Upgrade
* TB spacer
* Dogbone Bushing Upgrade
* High Output Alternator (for the audio system)
* TRD RSB (Where can I find one?)
* Goodridge SS brake lines (Where can I find these?)
* Big Brake Upgrade or at least improved braking. (Recommendations)
* CP-E MAFci (tunable)
* TRD, Greddy, or JPP Exhaust

I know that trying to get HP out of an automatic is pretty much pointless so I'm looking for things that get the most bang for the buck and keep reliability.

Now for my questions;
* Are any of these worth the money?
* overbored throttlebody (Won't it lean out too much?)
* Plasma booster
* Hyper Voltage
* Light weight URD pulley

Thanks in advance!!!!

* Improve factory grounding - You can make your own groudin' system by uppin' up the wire AWG.

* Jim's Torque Rod or make my own - You should be able to get one.....

* Jim's Fuel Kit Upgrade - No point unless you're S/C or got an igintion module to spark that extra fuel.

* TB spacer - Helps alittle but not that much.

* Dogbone Bushing Upgrade - Will def help to not make the engine move that much.

* High Output Alternator (for the audio system) - That will work.

* TRD RSB (Where can I find one?) - Reggie [forgot his S/N/ on here]

* Goodridge SS brake lines (Where can I find these?) - Tire Rack.

* Big Brake Upgrade or at least improved braking. (Recommendations) - Slotted rotors are the way to go. I'm about to put on some DBA rotors and ceramic pads.

* CP-E MAFci (tunable) - If you got the money.

* TRD, Greddy, or JPP Exhaust - TRD, Greddy = rare if you can find out. JPP = if you got the money.

* overbored throttlebody (Won't it lean out too much?) - It shouldn't

* Plasma booster - Should help the sparkin' the spark plugs.

* Hyper Voltage - Should help stablize the groundin' system.

* Light weight URD pulley - If you got interest in gettin' a URD pulley it will help free up some HP.

I have most of these mods check my sig...
currently I am using
CPE intake with ECU upgrade
TRD exhaust 2.5 inch piping custom resonator
Dats custom Y pipe
Magnaflow high flow cat
Light weight URD pulley
Plasma booster ignition amplifier
Hyper Voltage
TB Spacer
Over Bore Throttle body
Crispmongo aka K&N oversize filter
Ground wire upgrade
NGK iridium Plugs
NKG wires
TRD Quick Shift kit
TRD rear sway bar
Jim's TQ rod

* Improve factory grounding: Easy there are cheap universal ebay kits that work fine.

* Jim's Torque Rod or make my own: Look in the for sale section I think there are a few available.

* Jim's Fuel Kit Upgrade If you are NA or don't have a lot of mods don't worry for now just replace the fuel filter.

* TB spacer Nice cheap upgrade PM me for details

* High Output Alternator (for the audio system) Search around a Toyota highlander is a good replacement for more power and low cost.

* TRD RSB (Where can I find one?) talk to Reggie AKA NVDIS1

* Big Brake Upgrade or at least improved braking. (Recommendations) Brembo blanks and hawk pads are a good combo

* CP-E MAFci (tunable) Kicks ass get it and look at the CPE link in my sig.

* TRD, Greddy, or JPP Exhaust I am bias but I love my TRD with custom cat back check other link in my sig.

* Are any of these worth the money?

* overbored throttlebody (Won't it lean out too much?) Get it this is a great mod and the injectors and ecu can handle 4psi of boost the Tb will not shove in more air than the SC

* Plasma booster Nice mod I like mine but I would do TB, CPE and exhaust first

* Hyper Voltage Seems to make a little difference do TB, CPE and exhaust first

* Light weight URD pulley Out of production helps the engine rev faster nice unit do TB, CPE and exhaust first

Improve factory grounding --> goto www.knukonceptz.com and you can order 4AWG copper wire for around $1/foot, as well as gold plated terminals. it's much cheaper to make them yourself (<$50 versus ~$140+ w/ one new in box)

Jim's Torque Rod or make my own ---> check the gen1 wanted/for sale section, i think eye8pussies is currently in possesion of some extras that he's selling for $75 (i think).

TB spacer --> the application that fits ours is listed as being for the tundra, if i'm not mistaken

TRD RSB ---> PM reggie (i think the SN is NVDIS1), he works parts dept at a toyota dealership in STL

Big Brake Upgrade or at least improved braking. (Recommendations) ---> i personally went with slotted and dimpled rotors w/ organic pads ... the axxis pads are supposed to produce less brake dust and less squeal, which in my experience is true. the braking power is the same as OEM though.

CP-E MAFci (tunable) ----> good choice, def check out midias' sig for the hardwire instructions, once you get it

good luck and keep us updated

seirously, thats a crap load of money. I'd say just save it all up and DONT buy any of those things. Just save up and buy a TRD s/c when one shows up. no-question increase in power and later one you can add that list on.

Thanks for the assistance so far everyone. I really want to find either a big brake upgrade or something that improves braking. Has anyone done this and/or have any suggestions?

Thanks again.

Big brake upgrade is ungodly expensive and not really worth it. Just get some nice blank rotors and quality ceramic pads like the factory ones.

Only Rotora makes a big brake kit i think.
You'll need to run 17" rims to 18" rims to have a front big brake kit.
Just normal slotted or slotted dimpled rotors and Hawk pads should be fine.
SS brake lines should help even more.

I am running brembo slotted rotors, hawk hps pads and goodrich stainless steel lines- the braking is a huge improvement over stock.

Check Stoptech website too...you might find something interesting there. I bough the StopTech SS brake lines and the braking is quicker to respond...no lag

I bought some R1concept rotor...don't know if they brake better...I think they do. You can go with some Brembo blanks like bronze has

^ nope

waste of money....though an safc would not be too bad of an idea if you can either get cheap/free tuning or already have a wideband...which would also be a waste of money on an NA application...

in short, with a good tune, you can probably gain 5whp or so on the top end of the powerband since stock ecu tunes rich up top....but it's not really worth the money to do so in the end...unless of course, you can pick up a cheap safcII as well as a cheap tune

my brake kit is being made by the guys at revolutionbrake.com. everything is custom made for the car. my kit has 13" crossdrilled and slotted rotors with wilwood 4 piston calipers and custom brackets, stainless steel braided brake lines and all the other goodies. custom is a bit more pricey, around 2k for the kit.

You must just being doing the front, since they list the rear for another 2K. I wanted to do both front and rear but not for 5K!!! That's simply nuts!!
