the evo musta been in P, or the parking brake may have been on :D or maybe the evo was driving backwards in the 'race'...... :P

boring out will get some gains, but not that much.

if you're boring out the cylinders, wouldn't you have to replace the pistons then? and then probably also the cooling system (since there's going to be more heat produced)? i've heard of people boring out the intake manifold and the engine and all that, but i doubt 500cc's of space is freed up, while keeping the block in good condition for 5 more years of use. shoot, i doubt 500cc's is even available to bore out. mostly i hear about people boring on the scale of mm's, which would not be able to free up that much space (like mentioned on page 1, i've heard of people increasing displacement by 0.1 L, rather than 0.5 L).

bore out your throttle body if you want to bore stuff. mess with your engine when you have another car to drive on the regular (since boring out will also take a few days, i'd imagine).

i also like the suggestion of transplanting engines....
get the 3mz-fe (3.3L) and then you MIGHT be able to bore to 3.5L .... but on the 1mz-fe there's no way to get to 3.5L safely.

What you need to do is hone ur intake. You can use sand to do this. Just start ur car and feed a lil bit into ur intake and rev the car slightly. Keep doing this till the sand works through the intake manifold runners and hones them out. It'll also bore out ur cylinders slightly too

You see right away the kid is not aware of the internals ! You'll have to change your pistons and gasket and a lot of things....you'll have to manage your compression rate with some thicker gasket....Milt summarized it so nicely !! LMAO !!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with everyone else your friend is full of it, at least for $1500. You might be able to get to 3.5 with a re-bore and a stroker kit, but it would be a heck of a lot more than $1500. I think Flatlander Racing has a stroker kit for the 5S that took it from a 2.2 to a 2.5, but it was stupidly expensive for the extra 20hp you would get at the crank with it. If you want to get the most out of $1500, and stay NA, get a head job. If you just want power and don’t want to stay NA, get blown.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Start with tunable CPE and full exhaust custom Y pipe and high flow cat. Then overbore TB. See how much you have left over and work from there.
