do you mean a black burn mark above the tip? when i had my y-pipe back exhaust it did that too. most cars with modded exhaust more than just cat-back will do that.

is it really a burn, or is it extra unburnt fuel? and have you had ppl follow your car to see if you're shooting flames or backfiring?

and hwy would the ignition make you run rich unless it's doing worse than the stock ignition? the hks ignition should make your run leaner by burning more fuel in the combustion chamber

If your tip is set back inside the bumper, then you probably are getting some burning. The tip needs to extend about 1" past the bottom edge of the bumper. There should be atleast 20mm clearance around the tip to keep radiated heat from burning as well.

If you're getting lots of carbon scoring, then running waaayyy rich will do that. I'm concerned for your converters though. When you run rich, the catalytic reaction will generate a lot of heat in the converter. Your raw fuel actually ignites or smolders on the converter substrate. A meltdown of the substrate will eventually happen and plug your exhaust. (If the added heat from the converter doesn't burn your carpet.

If MORE fuel is burnt, how is that making it leaner? More fuel will make the air/fuel mixture more rich.

I get carbon deposits on the bumpers of both of my cars with modified exhaust, but no burning... I think some carbon buildup is normal though.

This is why I always scratch my head when I see modded cavaliers and neons with the muffler actually touching the body kit.

ummmm....you just answered your own question there....

the engine isn't going to dump much more fuel at all than it originally did. The difference is that the stronger ignition is supposed to ignite MORE fuel for more power....thus there will be LESS left over fuel going through the exhaust...

I had that problem when i first got my Greddy Evo exhaust.
It's just the heat gettin' to the paint and burnin' it alittle.
You'll be fine.
You could make your own exhaust tip shield on the rear bumper wit a SS piece.

One of my friend's had this problem with his Evo, almost completely ruined his back bumper, so he is replacing the entire thing.

Get a stainless cone filter shield off ebay and use it to make a shield for the exhaust. Something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Air-Inta ... enameZWDVW
