New plugs and wires

New plugs and wires

Postby Jakecallun20 » Tue Oct 30, 2007 6:18 pm

I am going to give my car a tune up. I am replacing my spark plugs and my plug wires. Also an oil change and stuff like that. Next week when I get my brakes done. I don't really wanna spend much on these, just some new ones. Basically the same plug that is in it now, just new. Maybe some better wires. What should I buy? (I have a V6) And also, I couldn't find much on this in the searches but is there a Tutorial about how to get to the plugs? The front ones look simple enough. (take the bolt and plastic thing off?) The back ones look harder...And is there a set of wires for the rear plugs? Thanks Jake

Go to sparkplugs.com and buy NGK blues if you want plug wires. To be honest you probably dont need to replace the wires. I did just for the sake of it. Since you have a V6 the front three the coil pack sits right on top of the spark plugs so you only need the three wires that connect to each coil pack that runs to the back plugs. You can get your plugs from that same website. I believe your stock plugs are Denso PK20TR11. If you want something better then go with Denso IK20's. Thats what I got. A lot of people will tell you to go with Denso IK22's which is only necessary if you are SC. NGK plugs are also good. If you dont get iridium plugs make sure you get double tipped plugs.

Are these IK20's irridiums? Meaning they only have one end? And could I pick these up at autozone?

Alright, I am getting the Denso Iridium plugs from autozone. I don't feel like waiting for them in the mail, so Imma go get em. Not replacing the wires today. Since these are iridium, I should only need the single ended ones (correct me if I am wrong)

Yes iridium plugs are single tipped. Its ok to use single tip if they are iridium plugs.

^^ Thanks mark, but I got them from autozone. I want to get this done tomorrow. Got some TB cleaner to fix my rough idle too. I got the Denso Iridium IK20s. Didn't get any new wires today though, the old ones will work till I get new thicker wires. I am probably going to get these: http://www.ngk.com/more_info.asp?AAIA=1357556&pid=3358

Thanks for the help guys.

Alright, got all 6 plugs changed today. Front 3 went in fine, passenger rear went in fine, but middle and driver rear were Bit*hs. I guess someone had already put some nicer plugs in before I got the car. This car had NGK R BKR6EKPB 11 Plugs in it. Not sure what kind those were, I am assuming they were platinum since they were double tipped. Thanks for all the help guys. Car's rough idle problem is pretty much gone. Sounds different too.

Actually I think those plugs are stock. I think Toyota puts in either NGK plugs or Denso plugs. It doesnt matter either way they are both really good brands. Glad to hear you got it done

i thought OEM parts manufacturer was denso....making the ngk's aftermarket.

i know when i changed my car's plugs they had denso's in them (but i also bought my car used about 2 years ago, so they could have been changed already).

Like orange said, NGK and Denso were used. I looked up some information. Hard to believe those plugs has 140k on them.
