how bout just get synthetic!
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,

I use 10w30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil. My 1.5gen normally takes 5w30 but I prefer 10w30, seems to be easier on the engine. Also, factor in the fact that with synthetic you can go 8k without a change.

Some people (with money) prefer to do the routine 3k change even with synthetic but 8k will do just fine.

whats the advantage of Synthetic vs Regular oil?

Ive been using regular oil on my car, Mobil 1 5000 mile Conventional.

If i use full Synthetic, i heard the gaskets start to leak or some other crap....

i used havoline high mileage w/wix filter- that was pretty shtty. it seemed like the car was rather heavy and it wouldn't hold speed as well as it usually did.. . but then again- its buttDYNO.

Odd because high mileage is designed to flow better to help with things like cold starts

Synthetic oil preserves your engine innards and you can go much longer without a change. Like I said, 8k miles or so. It's economical in that aspect.

I haven't heard any problems about gaskets leaking if you use full synthetic. In fact, synthetic oil extends the life of the engine and greatly reduces the chances of sludge.

My advice to you, Dawgz, is to continue using conventional oil until you get the engine rebuilt under Toyota's policy. After that, switch over to synthetic since you'll pretty much have a blank slate (after the break-in oil is expended, of course)

I still haven't had an oil change since the rebuild. They told me not to change the oil until 79400-something miles (have it on a sticker) since the break-in oil has a special composition to prime up the engine or something like that. I'm not sure about the specifics. Along with 10w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic, I use a Purolator PureOne filter. It's definitely one of the best filters out there.

this week i'll be changing the car oil for the first time. I'll be filling up with synthetic oil.
I will do so 2 times and switch back to regular 5w30 + one full of premium gas

just to clean up the engine a litle

If you have been using normal oil in an engine for a while and then start using synthetic, the engine could start leaking from seals since the old oil buildup gets washed away. They make some high mileage oil, might help a valve cover some.
