Just buy some throttle body cleaner and spray and scrub (I use an old toothbrush) the inside and both sides of the butterfly. Make sure to wipe it clean before you start the car. That's all there is to it. :D

the best way to go is remove the entire throttle body and clean with carb cleaner

if you do not plan on dismantling the throttle body then do NOT use carb cleaner - it will damage fuel injectors. If you remove the throttle body then carb cleaner is fine.

by the way this is the a view of the rear on the throttle body (side that touches the manifold) which is not usually cleaned well if you do not remove it.

That's all you need to do anymore is really overkill.

i just did cleaned the tb...
I didnt get smoke or anything.. It did start kinda funny though. Took a lil longer thang usual. I guess i can kinda notice it.. seems somewhats smoother. Maybe i expected a lot from what u guys were saying. I mean im at 96k miles on a 99 solara ... and i figured itd be super dirty. But it wasnt that bad. Maybe i didnt spray enough? I even used a toothbrush and a rag.

The kinda rough start is normal, I believe that's just some left over cleaner being eaten up. Don't expect too much, it'll mainly smooth out your acceleration a bit. You don't need to spray that much, you should notice the difference when it's clean or not. Are you running a stock intake or a SRI? I think you'll notice more with a SRI, but I don't know since the intake was one of my first mods.

yea all i have is the CPe... but i guess it is kinda smoother...
but because i didnt notice any smoke or anything i was tempted to do it again just to make sure. But i guess ill leave it alone. I dont wanna do any unnecessary damage.

Is it necessary to remove the front sway bar (the bar that goes from one strut to the other)? Just by looking under the hood, it seems to be in the way.

Did you disconnect any wires, or were you able to loosen and move the tube to the side?
