I did, but it doesn't do much. Others have told me you need it to keep the throttle body for getting extremely hot. Don't do it.

Throttle Body bypass

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Thu Jun 14, 2007 3:38 pm

Bypassing the throttle body from coolant flow is something I wrote about several years ago and recommend because it does keep the intake stream a little cooler. But you don't need some lame kit. Just re-route the little hose from the lower intake back to the coolant flange below. It can't hurt unless you drive in very cold temps, way below freezing and even then, you just need to let the motor warm up for a couple minutes. I have been runnung this simple mod for 6 years with no bad effect, even at the lowest temps.

no tutorial needed if you spend a little money about 5 dollars get a 5/16 brass barb home depot plumbing isle and 2 hose clamps remove the lines and hook together.

This topic comes up every couple years. My personal opinion is this mod does little to nothing for performance. My roommate and I both did this and switched it back for the winter.

I remember seeing a dyno chart of a LS1 before and after the TB bypass. It actually gained a few HP when the engine was still cool. No gains at normal operating temp.

Having said that, it won't hurt anything to give it a shot.

I did this on my accord as the New overbore TB was not able to accept the stock lines. I did not notice any read difference It may help in the hotter summer months but I am not sure.

same as others- been doing it for years now with no problems.

better performance? no idea. but didn't hurt either, for sure.

And I'm sure when I had idling problems with my iac, not having hot coolant running through my throttlebody probably helped

forgive me for my ignorance.. but im not exactly mechanically inclined lol

i havent quite located the coolant flange below...
and is the hose from the lower intake back, one of the hoses actually attached to the intake? so ill end up leaving one of the holes unplugged?
and btw i have a Cpe, so i guess itll look kinda different from the regular stock box.

the coolant bypass hose will have nothing to do with the stock box

the coolant comes out of the block, into the place that it's run under the throttlebody, and then back out and back into the block.

all you have to do is disconnect the two rubber coolant hoses and get a dual male-ends adaptor and plug them together to make the coolant go in a circle back into the block
