why bypass factory amp?

I have a 2002 solara with JBL premium sound system. I am planning on replacing the oem headunit with an aftermarket one, Pioneer DEH-P2900MP. I've read several posts on here that say you should bypass the factory amp. My question is that is there a way to not bypass the factory amp? I am not going to use an aftermarket amp/sub therefore i want to use the factory one. I am looking at the Metra 70-8113 Toyota Amplified JBL Wire Harness New, will this work?

looks fine to me but the amp in your aftermarket cd player will more than likely sound better than the factory amp. The JBL speakers in the solara are really good but the amp sucks.

I bypassed mine when i changed my system. They didnt have the harness at the time. The factory amp is hard to get and real expensive. i still have mine if anyone wants to buy it.

sorry im so newbie, but does the aftermarket head unit already has a built in amp or something? Also, if im not mistaken, the solara also comes with a subwoofer, do i need some special wiring to use the subwoofer for the new head unit or do i just connect the 70-176 harness normally.

Only the convertibles come with subwoofers to compensate for the loss of bass response derived from the hardtop's 6X9 speakers in the back (convertibles use 6 1/2" all around). The built in one can somewhat power speakers, but not as good as a separate amp.

The new unit should already has a amp built in.. its a small one but it will power ths stock JBL speakers with no problems.

i bypassed my amp by unhooking it from the amp behind the air bag and using those to wires to connect to
the head unit Everything works and sound great

i bypassed my amp and it sounds a whole lot better than stock. It is more clear and crisp. I had my radio hooked to the factory amp and the sound was not as good as i wanted. And if you dont change out your speakers more than likely your factory door speakers will be blown very soon if you like loud bass-ey music. I would advise you to bypass the factory amp. The JBL speakers sound so good for factory speakers.

^^ not true.. im using stock jbl in the front and after market jbl in the rear ( rear were torn when stock unit was in ) you speakers arnt supposed to play Bass.. Thats what Sub woofers are made for

Not if you use bass reducer, as well as setting it in the Head unit to only play crisp sound no bass, and allowing the sub to play the bass

yea... but he's NOT using a bass reducer and he is NOT using a sub, just stock speakers, woofers and tweeters.

Yea. i am using stock jbl speakers. I have blown a whole set. trust me i know what i am talking about. And as far as bass blockers if you buy a good head unit they have a feature that filters out bass. I set mine so it sounds really good but yet to have the factory feel to the sound. Yes you can play bass through the door speakers you just have to set the frequency to where certain lows dont come in. That is why you look for a high quality head unit so your speakers will not blow. The factory unit was not too great for me. I had the 6 disc changer and all my cds got suck and they are stuck in there to this very day.
