Wow; I bet this is the same type of response she got last time! It sounds like she did her homework though...
http://www.analogx.com/CONTENTS/vinview.htm
It'd be neat to plug in the VIN to this or a similar site and see what it says... but basically, no one can explain a Toyota vehicle identification number better than a Toyota dealer, who has access to Toyota's database. When the dealer runs the numbers, they see every option that the car originally came with, from interior color to wheel size, engine configuration to radio set-up. If Toyota says it's an SLE after a VIN search that was special ordered, either it's because the information is on the screen in front of them says so or it's someone's idea of a sick joke... I think the sick joke theory should be ruled out since two different dealerships have been involved; anyone agree?

Yeah - kinda what I was thinking too... :-?

Instead of everyone being so quick to jump in and call BS, why not give her the benefit of the doubt and just "Welcome" her? Why does it matter so much what kind of tranny her ride has - or how it got that way? ;)

Carfax is a tad more helpful... IT does say SE/SLE, but it still doesn't tell you what type of transmission.

The digital control would sell me on the SLE 5spd from the factory. Otherwise I say it's an SE with all the other SLE options with swapped badges because they come up as both when the VINs are searched (I know this because I've owned both an SE and an SLE). Even still, I want to say if it has the digital control it may have been changed from the factory. But if it's only you being the one owner then whatever was done was done factory so that's cool.

Get another one. I owned two, they're great cars.

I knew the emotions would be mixed here. Sorry to stir things up. It does have climate control. The visor has been replaced due to the mirror breaking so I don't know about the original visor having the garage door opener. It was broke when I bought the car. I have no reason to lie and I wouldn't. I can't imagine someone going as far as to buy gold edition badges and badge it in 3 places and also have the dealer tell me it is what it is. Sounds like a conspiracy theory.... Anyway, I will take pictures of the ride for everyone to see and drool over. Either way I love my car and it would not matter to me if it was an SE, therefore it shouldn't matter to all of you either. It won't be sold for a very long time so I won't be misrepresenting it. Thanks to those of you who stuck up for me!! I didn't get that last time. I did the VIN thing you suggested and I can't get much to come up. I'll try to find another and run it again. I just feel like it's a waste if 2 other dealers have verified my claim. Anyway, thanks for all the welcomes....I look forward to meeting all of you and learning more about the car I love! We are going to drive the 2003 this morning for my husband :P

You have a very very rare car, NO ONE has ever heard or seen such an SLE, hence everyone jumps on the bandwagon from what they have read. I'm not going to doubt your BS or call it BS..but its a very rare care. All my Toyota manuals/solara brochures (even from gen 1 times - yes i'm a neard...i retained solara dealership & manufacturer brochures) indicate SLE only comes in A/t. Eithercase, welcome aboard...and have fun while here.
