PO446 code resolved

PO446 code resolved

Just thought I'd mention that I had the infamous PO446 code which is an EVAP emissions vent malfunction code. I tried the gas cap first. No luck. Then I went through the repair manual diagnosis procedure. According to Toyota the VSV for vapor pressure sensor was a real problem and the part number even changed, but mine was working as well as the VSV for EVAP, in the engine bay. In the end, it turned out to be the actual charcoal canister (or one of the valves that is a part of it). I bought the part new at Toyota $292.00 and it seems to have solved the problem.

This is just an FYI for anyone who has this code and is keeping track of the possible causes. In my case, I didn't just replace stuff, I actually went through all the appropriate checks and in the end the canister did not hold a vacuum.

Yes there is a VSV valve attached to the charcoal canister. When I had this problem I checked the VSV for the EVAP (the one under the hood) Mine was good too. So then I went out and bought a new charcoal canister. Of coarse after I bought it the light goes out before I even put the new canister in. So that leads me to think mine was the gas cap. So now Im stuck with a new charcoal canister. But I guess I have one if my VSV did malfunction.
