Also about the metal/plastic thing, I dont know about how well they insulate, but metal parts always feel more extreme than plastic parts because they transfer heat much faster when you touch them. What you feel is the transfer of heat of the hot metal part from it to you, not the actual temp of the part (In contrast. when a metal part has been sitting out, if you touch it, it feels much colder than the plastic because it sucks in the heat from your hand much faster, but in actuality, since both the plastic and metal have been sitting out there for a while, they should be the same actual temp.)

Maybe not the place to post but still on topic, am I losing any power using the s/r intake on a N/A Solara? If so, then I might as well get the extension to get back to near stock h/p. I don't see myself having the money for a supercharger so getting the extension and having it for later doesn't apply.

Alright people, forgive my ignorance as I am a TOTAL noob when it comes to this kind of thing... I am planning on getting a S/C for my '99 TRD (25th Anniversary Grand Pre Ltd. Ed.). I've been reading up in the posts, but as I don't know much about the mechanics of it, I've got some questions. With a S/C & high-pass filter, I've gathered that it'd be bennifical to grab these extensions, and for $115.50 (or 125 powder coated), I don't think I can pass it up as I know the price won't stay there long. What I AM wondering, though, is what else is involved in this upgrade? Fletch mentioned earlier, "Don't know if it is worth $300+ for the short ram & extension in my situation." What's the 'short ram & extension,' if that's not what we're talking about (where's the $300 come from if it is what we're talking about)?

There are two ways you can go about a CAI one buy the injen short ram then rj's extention or 2 buy the HKS MAF adapter and RJ's extention and make your own. I cannot say which was is better in terms of power and so far I have only sceen one person do it the second way. I know the whole project for the HKS way was only about $200.00 but it requires slightly more work.

The way it sounds you don't seem to know a lot regarding aftermarket upgrades. The best option in your case would be to get the Injen short ram intake and hop on this deal for the cold air extension. The extension is just what it says, an extension of the short ram intake to suck in air from outside the engine bay.

Also, what kind of performance boost might one expect from this alongside the TRD S/C? I've got a performance chip in, so my #'s are probably gonna be a little off, but I'm planning on dyno'ing it sometime soon to see what I'm getting now.

The intake provides 18 extra with a SC. and if you but the shortram and the extention from RJ I think he will give you a deal of sorts and it will save on shipping get both from him.

On the subject of intakes ... wouldn’t it be better to use a plastic pipe as opposed to a steel/alloy one in order to reduce heat? I have noticed that steel/alloy based components in the engine bay tend to be much hotter than plastic ones (obviously). Why wouldn’t this apply to the intake? It should reduce the air temperature entering the s/c if you use plastic (like factory).

Also, what is the diameter of the Injen/UPFD pipe?

Durring the cold NY winters I have found condensation on my intake (solara) from the cai after driving a bit, but durring cooler summer nights the metal piping on my accord was alaways nice and cool.

im torn on if i should get this
im a n/a planning on getting a supercharger eventually
if i get both the intake and the extension would i need anything else?
if i got the supercharger would i still use both the extension and the intake with no fitting problems?
and i know they got those little valves that u can put on that can insure that no water/debris can get into the intake...would that be applicable?
