Cool deal, I think I will do this. I'm in need of new front brakes anyways. One question I do have is about this bracket, Where does one obtain a set and how much are they? Or could I make one of scrap steel, or is there a way to do this with out it?

2932 approx. for a Gen 3 sedan vs. 3120 approx. for a Gen 1 Solara coupe, a difference of about 200 lbs. Strange that a single-piston caliper with pads of a smaller surface area were considered sufficient to stop a newer, slightly heavier car.

Regarding my previous post. I was confused about the picture of the the small bracket that there was a group buy for. LOL I now realize that that isn't part of the swap list needed for this. I see what your saying is that all we need is the bracket that bolts to the rotor housing and the caliper, and a set of pads for the caliper/bracket (1996 Camry) Just the 3 things. Since the calipers will be removed, the brake system will be in need of bleeding then, what kind of fluid do the Gen 1's take? Dot 3 or 4? Thanks

Maybe they started using better materials that enabled a reduction in size. Still, I think the driving force for moves like that is economy (save $$$ on parts), even if the chosen items have slightly diminished performance. I'm not sure on this, but has anybody checked to see if the past Camry used drum rears?

^ All V6 used rear disc. The I4's with ABS used rear disc as well. Only the I4 without ABS had drum.

My wife's 98 camry 4cyl has rear drums but it also has single piston calipers.

Alright ya'll. I picked up some parts today, and I'm going to get the 1996 Toyota Camry V6 With ABS calipers tomorrow. I have sourced some caliper brackets and I'll be stuffing them with hawk performance pads. Probably going to drain and refill my brake system since the fluid is 10 years old and I'll be having my factory rotors machined and I'll be reusing them.
