Looks awesome solaradude, did you use the DIY on this board for the wax job? I just bought some high quality stuff to make my finish look sweet! What products did you use?

i see a lot of solara owners changing their shift-knobs and they dont shorten the medal pole (that pushes the button down) and it looks sorta weird....so i just sawed the medal pole off to give it a more of a "clean look"

Hello Steve...

just in case you don't get to see my pm, I want to know how you installed that shift knob! and where did you buy it...

it looks so awesome :o

was it hard to install? are there anything wrong because the o/d is tucked inside?

so eager to get that good looking shift knob into my car...

please please please teach me... :P

thanks man

God bless

well.......i never used my o/d button so i just cut the original wiring off and i just put them behind the shift console. You shouldnt worry about the o/d button that much because it's not that useful.

anyway as far as the shift knob goes......i dont remember where i got them but im sure it would be easy to find.

i didnt want to change my shiftknob but my friend needed a bong and he thought my OEM shiftknob would get the job done so i changed it for the heck of it. it's really easy....just unhook the OEM stuff, and u need to saw the medal pole (skinny inner one) about an inch above where the outside (ring pole) medal is. thats all there is to it.

i hope this helped.

cheers

Postby bluesolara » Wed Apr 14, 2004 11:28 pm

tHANKS MAN!

your shift knob is a true inspiration for me, an in order to finish this mod, I'm gonna need a little more help...sorry...kinda lost about these screws and bolts and stuff

so please bear with me...thanks for all your time!

1. How do you take off the OEM shift knob? just the screws?
2. so I cut "1 inch" "ABOVE" the metal ring, rite?
3. What do I use to cut it off?
4. some hints about how to put the aftermarket knob on?

thanks man, really appreciate your help

God bless

yo yo....i think my memory is coming back to me

answer 1. yea....i believe theres two screws...once u unscrew them, you should be able to pull the OEM shift knob off or it might pop out...im not sure (i just dont remember)

answer 2. you need to cut the outer-ring metal off but not the inner one with it. You need to cut the inner (skinny) metal LAST. In other words...you would be screwed if you cut the skinny and the outer-ring metal together.

answer 3. you need a small hand saw.....just saw it for about a good 30 mins.

answer 4. your aftermarket shift knob will come with screws of some sort. mine came with 3, so it was easy to put it on.

kevin, i would love to help you out but it has been years since i have done this and i really dont remember that much :( im really sorry mang. But, I just want you to let you know that it is not that hard. if you get stuck....just let me know

all the best,
