All you have to do let off the brakes for the half-second it takes to traverse the bump/ hole. Then, continue to brake normally. This 'unloads' the front suspension and returns the nose of the car to it's normal ride height. This way there is more suspension travel available to 'smooth out' the bump. Also, the weight of the car is shifted forward when you hit the brakes. This puts more demand on your springs/ struts as they slam across imperfections in the road.
More on topic-- no issues with my Gen2 abs being over sensitive.
