I bought it from Reg. (Toyota Dealer) - '07 Sport spoiler was unpainted and had it painted to match. Ended up about a $450 project by the time I was done. Worth every penny IMO! ;)

wow, ya it looks great! Ill have to add that to my list of uprages to do to mine. I think ill put it right after the TRD exhaust, lowering kit, and train horns (people at my school drive wayyyyy too aggressively, and though my solara (along with all the others) do look great, they aren't too intimidating next to all the trucks (especially jacked up ones) at my school when everyone is trying to get out of school. People have actually crashed into eachother fighting to get out of their own parking stalls (nobody lets you out)

Good work, besides from the 4 bolts, did you put double side tape and weather stripping pads between the spoiler and the trunk lid?

Congrats again!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I love the way it turned out too! Look below for the answers to some of your questions...

But I gotta tell ya, it would look even better if you lowered the ride! ;) Seriously - it caries that long line out the back even more...

Thanks, I really appreciate your help with the shipping. I want to lower it also, but I think I'm going to go for a TRD RSB before that. :)

I've been busy this weekend with a bunch of stuff going on at my campus, but when I get a chance I'll definitely post a couple more shots. It looks great from the side!

I'm in the Columbia area, not too far from baltimore. I wish I had the sport kit already, but that couple thousand it costs aftermarket would put a hole in my pocket lol.

I put some double sided tape at the corners to prevent it from lifting up. I didn't put weather stripping pads in though... how do those work?

You should use some sort of weatherstripping. You can get adhesive backed weather strip at home depot or menards. just lay a strip all the way along the bottom surface of the spoiler so when you bolt it on it squishes down of the weather stripping and makes a seal. It's not necessary but it will keep water from getting under your spoiler and into the bolt holes and also keep your spoiler and trunk from rubbing against eachother. You could also just do one strip over all of the bolt holes too.

I would have thought that the spoiler would come with a weather strip/gasket though...

Pure genius with the clay, definitely gonna use that as future reference for anything I don't have a template for. But I also would definitely suggest the weatherstrip. You do not want water/ice trapped between the trunklid and spoiler and it'll further guarantee no movement or unexpected sound when hitting major potholes. Remember, an adhesive's main job is to attach and hold, the weatherstripping's main job is to protect.

I wish I would have thought of the weather stripping before putting the spoiler on, but I'd rather have it done right, so I'll stop by Home Depot sometime this weekend to check out their weather stripping.

This is the type of weather stripping I should get, right? >>> http://images4.fotki.com/v51/photos/7/7 ... 535-vi.jpg

As for the clay, it somehow just popped into my mind lol

The only reason I asked this was because swapped out my gen 2 spoiler for the gen 2.5 sport spoiler as well.
You did right with the double sided tape on the side edging. The weather strip would be installed the entire length of the spoiler (basically in between the double side tape) Also on the bottom length of the spoiler where it meets up with toyota emblem. The body shop used double sided tape the entire spoiler at my request.

The other thing was the holes that you drilled (EXCELLENT JOB!!!) to install the spoiler, there's supposed to be sealed rings around the holes to prevent water from entering the trunk. I wouldn't have know if I didn't have pre-existing holes there.

Sorry I would have posted this up, but you did your spoiler project a lil before I did mine. Mine was used and in a rough condition, although is was a similar color, but not a match, so it needed refinishing and sanding with two fresh coats of paint (only because the first coat wasn't done right, the body shop did a better paint job the second time around), all in all, I got what I wanted. I'll try and post pics up later this weekend.

Again, an excellent job well done! Props!!!

When I got the gen 2.5 spoiler, it didn't look like that, it looked almost like double side tape, so I'm not sure. Like I said in the above post, the body shop used double sided tape for the entire spoiler.

Well I stopped by home depot to see what they have to protect any water from entering the holes.

Is this the weather strip that some of you were referring to? It has adhesive on both sides...

I also looked for rubber washers/gaskets, but all of them seemed to be too thick. I ended up finding this gasket rubber that is pretty thin, and I can cut it to size to put around each of the holes. What do you think?

Those are exactly what I was referring to. Looks perfect for the job. Let us know how it goes. Ohh, and I also forgot to comment on your clay technique. Very clever. I will definitely use this in the future, Thanks!

I'm glad everyone likes the way I did it without a template! Feel free to use it in the future!

...As for the weather strip, where exactly should I place it? Should I only put it above the holes? Should I put it directly over the holes to make a seal all around them? or should I put it above and beneath? :-?

The reason I bought the rubber gasket instead of the weather strip when I went to home depot was because the weather strip says there's only a 5 year guarantee (so after that will it begin to deteriorate and weaken from being in contact with water?).

Put the gasket seal (cut to the shape of washer rings) over each hole and make holes for the bolts to bolt onto the spoiler.

Something to mention...when removing your spoiler with the double-sided tape already adhered, you should atleast use a blow dryer to slightly heat the double-side tape area before removal, be extra careful around your paint.

Definitely use heat gun/hairdyer to remove the tape like Michael mentioned! You don't want to pull of the paint :) Shouldn't be a problem, just an extra precaution.

Like Michael said use the gasket material to make o rings that fit around the bolt holes. Use the weatherstrip to make an outline of the whole bottom side of the spoiler. Leave about a 1/2" from the edge so that when the strip is compressed it wont expand outside of the spoiler. Basically you want a complete seal around the edge so that water can't enter from any side.

Good Luck!
