Rear brake caliper bracket busted! what's the part name?

So yesterday, I took my 2001 v6 solara to a buddy's shop to replace the rear brake pads, however when he was removing the caliper, one of the bolts snapped off the caliper bracket.

We took a look at this bracket, and the holes where two smooth bolts go were completely corroded, and one of the snapped bolts were stuck in there. After an hour or so, he finally got the bolt out, but we couldn't find any shop that had this "bracket" or bolt. Right now, my car is rigged with a shorter bolt into the bracket, while another bolt if screwed into the other side. Is it safe to drive like this?

Anyway, I was thinking of going to the dealer to get this fixed, but I know they're going to rape me. Does anyone know what the part is actually called so maybe we can do it for cheaper?

Go to dealer and ask, im sure they have he part, u buy parts from them and go somewhere else to do the job, i always do this for my old 99 Solara, but some of the eazy job like change gas filter etc. i do it myself for my Solara 2001.

Its hard to find aftermarket parts for Solara cause the price compare to Genuin part from Toyota is not big different, people go to deal most of the time, unless you buy from Mod Car store or salvage junkyard.

Its not safe to drive like that bro, who knows what gonna happen when ur driving ? u take that broke piece go show to the Toyota Parts and ask them, Toyota knows better about their cars.

I tried one of the dealers close to me, but they didn't get back to me.

I did some searching/googling and found out that this is called the caliper bracket or torque plate.

What happened was the sliding pin bolt that goes into this plate was seized, and bolt wouldn't budge. Right now, there is a shorter pin bolt in one of the socket, and another bolt screwed into the pin-bolt from the caliper.

Is this an easy job for a local mechanic, or would I need to goto the dealer to get it fixed? If anyone knows the actual part number, that would be a great help.

Here's the kind of pin he used so I could get going:

Jessica Alba /drool

Well I finally got a hold of someone at the dealer's part dept. They do have the rear caliper bracket, and It only takes 1 day to get there. Unfortunately, it costs $101 each, and I can't find any other stores that have this part.

I think I may just buy this part, and take it to a local shop. I believe it's the same amount of labor as replacing a brake pad since you have to remove the caliper anyway.

When this drama happened, we didn't even check the other caliper bracket. What are the chances that these pin holes will also be seized?

You're a life saver, thanks! I assuming 47721 is for the right rear bracket, and 47722 is for the left?

I was thinking, since the bracket is not physically damaged and only one of the holes were seized, could I just clean and lube to reuse? Or would it be better to replace?

You do not need to replace the bracket, just lube it up real good and also lube up the guide pins (which is this Image )

Thanks for the support guys, I know I'm asking like 20 million questions.

So I just spoke to the mechanic that took it apart last week, and he said the bracket was most likely done and could not be cleaned b/c that pin was stuck so bad in there. Does that sound right or should I get a 2nd opinion.

The good news is he can get this bracket for $75 from the dealership since he can use his work account to order.

I was in the same situation as you. All the stores I went to have it (autozone, NAPA, carquest, and other major chain stores), its just you need to order it and it shouldn't cost more than $20. So buying that for $75 at the dealership is a rip off.

It is called a caliper bracket, if you have time you can order it from rockauto.com (part number 141303).

I checked that part at rockauto, and it's for the front, but I need the rears.

I tried all the other online and local parts stores, and no one has the rear bracket except for the dealer. Since this is my DD, I think I may have to bite the bullet and just get a bracket or two from the dealer. I just hope my rotors aren't warped on the inside since the pad is just rubbing up against it now.

^Oh I see, damn that sucks. Reminds me of this one time the key cylinder in my DD camry died, the dealer was the only one who had it in stock so I bought it for ~$130.

I went to the dealer today to see if the brackets were actually busted, but they said it was fine, however the pins were all bent causing the caliper to stick, which in turn damaged my rotors. Total for new rear rotors, pads, and pins is going to be about $450 including labor.

i wanted to decline the work and taken it somewhere else, but they said they didn't have any pins and cuoldn't put it back together for safety reasons, so unfortunately I'm stuck paying this price. On the bright side, they gave me a free rental so I can goto work tomorrow at least...
