TRD Sway Bar Arrived... w/o links!

Postby tresola » Thu May 07, 2009 6:54 am

So my awesome new TRD sway bar arrived yesterday, and I was a bit unhappy to discover there were no end links provided! Does it matter what kind I put in there? I did a google search and there didn't seem to be any TRD end links in particular. I just want to make sure if I end up buying a lower end it will be "compatible" with the sway bar and I won't have any problems.

Are there any other parts I should consider buying as long as I'm at it? I was reading one thread discussing was it screws or plates or something were rusted and needed replacing. I just want to be prepared; I know how much it sucks to tear apart a car, only to realize you're missing a part, or you break something.

The TRD sway bar is compatible with your OEM end links. You can choose track or street setting by which hole you connect the end links to the bar. Track setting is the top hole, and street is the bottom. If your end links need to be replaced, I've had luck with eBay. You could try finding a quality seller, just make sure the end links have the bolt that fits the allen head wrench.

As far as to my knowledge the TRD RSB never did come with end links only poly bushings and silicon grease.

You will be using the stock end links. IMO id go out and buy a set of Moog End Links. They are a lot stiffer and more user friendly.

I'd also purchase some Teflon tape/paste to wrap the bar so that it doesn't squeak.

We could try using the stock links then, although I'm thinking of what the mechanic found and wondering if the end links may also be bad. The mechanic mentioned the sway bar and I think he might have been talking about the bushings, not end links, unless the bushings don't normally go bad and you'd find it upon a visual inspection. ?? I thought he also mentioned "right sway bar", but of course there is so such thing. Okay, I think he may have been referring to the links. So Moog's a good name then? Is there a big difference between the end links, or do they lead to perhaps more noise the older they get? And I'll be sure and try the teflon tape trick, I did see the thread discussing that.

At the risk of sounding stupid, what's the difference between track and street setting? I'd like to have premium handling but not sacrifice a good ride for a sporty bouncy one.

Your mechanic was probably referring to the right end link. IMO when I went to Advanced Auto Parts & purchased the new set of Moog End Links they were much nicer.

- There is no allen key whole to fiddle around with
- They have lubrication points so that you can hook up a grease gun to and fill them when it comes time.
- They are 2x thicker or so than OEM

As for the track and street settings. I have mine on track. The ride handles flawlessly come cornering and no obvious rolling. I am not sure but street setting will be maybe like your stock RSB just less roll. Go TRACK!

As far for being bouncy that has to do more with your suspension setup.

Cool, I'll definitely do track then. The stock one kind of sucks although mine is worn or at least parts of it are. I like cars with flawless handling. My Saab was pretty good for that, and my Subaru used to be that way, although I think the sway bar's out on that too. Does the car seem a little less floaty on the road over bumps?

They have Moog for $49.99 at Checker Auto. Is that each one, or a set? They said you need two per car but of course they don't tell you how they sell it. I'm assuming its in sets... Otherwise they have McQuay-Norris for $43.99 (never heard of this brand) or Falcon for $27.99 (cheap!). I won't have a problem dropping the extra few $$ for Moog since they sound a bit better than factory. So how does the price sound for the Moogs?

$50 bucks for a SET is definitely reasonable for MOOG. I think I paid $80 bucks for mine at advanced auto parts, but didn't really care since I was in a hurry. They should be able to tell you whether or not they come as a set.

And yes, the TRD RSB never came with end links.

The moogs are so much better than OEM. This is one case that a factory part has failed!

The Autozone by me doesn't carry Moog, and Advance Auto Parts is the same price. Nobody else seems to carry them in town, just O'Reillys/Checker. Hmmm. Should I just get a cheaper brand then, or should I pay double for the Moogs?

I cannot find any TSW in the area either. Its funny, for as many parts stores and dealers as there are around here, their selection SUCKS! If I had more time, I'd order online, but i need the stuff here by Saturday at the latest. I don't think I could wait any longer to get the sway bar in; I'm excited to see the difference it'll make.
